A fresh cayuco has arrived within the last few hours carrying a total of 65 migrants at La Restinga Pier, situated on the island of El Hierro, according to the Red Cross.
Specifically, they noted that after 6:50 p.m. this Thursday, Maritime Rescue reported the arrival of an irregular vessel at the port.
Consequently, the health team, comprised of the Red Cross and the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), attended to the 65 individuals aboard the cayuco, all of whom appeared to be in good health, as none required transfer to hospital facilities.

The initial group of firefighters from Tenerife who were dispatched to Valencia to assist with flood relief operations following DANA has returned to the island this Friday, “exhausted, yet content.”
This sentiment was shared on their X profile, indicating that a total of 18 firefighters laboured “diligently to bring a glimmer of hope amidst the disaster.”

In their stead, a rescue team has been established with several members who journeyed to Valencia on Thursday, November 7, to continue the efforts in the regions most impacted by DANA.

Iván Martín, the president of the Tenerife Firefighters Consortium, asserts that the new arrivals will infuse renewed enthusiasm and vigor into the search, clean-up, and rescue operations. “The new group will persist in their work guided by all pre-arranged logistics while prioritising safety and prevention,” he concludes.

The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, will preside over the inauguration of the extraordinary and decorative Christmas lights in the city on Thursday, November 21. This event is scheduled to take place at the Plaza de la Candelaria starting at 7:30 p.m. This year, the decorative display for the opening ceremony has been enhanced by increasing the number of lights and introducing new decorations at various locations around the square and nearby areas, thus elevating the visual experience and crafting a distinctive atmosphere for family celebrations,” stated the mayor.
“The city is set to witness a monumental occasion with the inaugural Christmas Lighting in the iconic Plaza de la Candelaria, which we are returning to this year and promises to enchant both residents and visitors,” Bermúdez remarked.

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, has concluded this Friday the “outdated model” of mobility on the island through a package comprising seven axes, 70 initiatives and the elimination of 23 million vehicle journeys over the past 15 months.
This was revealed during an extraordinary plenary session, where, in response to criticism from the PSOE regarding the accuracy of the figures – which has requested written evidence – she highlighted the implementation of free public transport, resulting in an additional 7,000 bus journeys.

Today, Tuesday, 24th September, the Teide Cable Car inaugurated its facilities in the Cañadas del Teide National Park, unveiling a propulsion system for its cabins powered by photovoltaic solar energy. This innovation results in a complete reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, marking a significant shift for the future of the funicular industry worldwide. Consequently, the Teide Cable Car now represents the first installation globally that operates independently from the grid, utilising solar energy.
The introduction of this system at the Teide cable car signifies the total elimination of the carbon footprint associated with this infrastructure, reinforcing the island of Tenerife’s status as an increasingly sustainable tourist destination, where the enjoyment of natural landscapes is paired with the protection and stewardship of the environment.

By Gabriela Gulesserian/Cristo Suárez. | The 15 northern municipalities from Tacoronte to El Tanque have generated merely one in ten jobs created over the past year on the Island, as per Social Security affiliation figures released by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).
From September 2023 to 2024, Tenerife saw the creation of 13,840 jobs. However, only 1,560 of these positions were in the fifteen northern municipalities, accounting for 10.5%, or one in ten.
Notably, almost all the increase in employment is concentrated in Puerto de la Cruz, which has added 1,530 new jobs over the last year, predominantly in the hospitality and tourism sectors. This growth comes as seven other areas have witnessed job losses in the past year, including Buenavista del Norte (-10); La Guancha (-10); San Juan de la Rambla (-70); Saint Ursula (-210); El Tanque (-85); Icod de los Vinos (-70) and La Victoria de Acentejo (-5).
