Ascending Mt Etna you start to feel like entering a different planet entirely 🌑. The black lava rock deposited in waves by thousands of eruptions over centuries feel quite unreal.

The volcano’s flora is also quite unique. Bushy, mossy plants dote the slopes that can withstand the harsh winds at high altitude at the top, then pines and chestnut trees as we go lower and fertile vineyards and orchards closer to the base of the mountain. A very unique micro ecosystem that should not be missed when you visit Sicily with us at Casa Oliva

November is a wonderful month to hike Europe’s highest volcano and one of the most active volcanoes around the globe. Mt Etna is in incredible power that shaped Sicily’s landscape and culture over the centuries.
