This is an enlightening gathering of international poets and artists in Morocco. The participants will go with us on a 14 days change making journey, not only to discover the hiden cultural treasures of this exotic and cosmopolitan country but most importanly by creating channels of hope and friendship so we can work across our differences to create peace, understanding, and global goodwill in the world.
Dates : From 6th to 20th May, 2022
The purpose of ‘Peace Poetery Beyond Borders’ forum :
- To foster inspiration for peace, wisdom and hope in the world as we witness loss and suffering in humanity brought about by conflicts and wars.
- To bring together Moroccan, Norwegian, Nordic and international poets, writers and artists in the bright light of direct connections, to meet, mingle, and collaborate .
- To liberate poets and their work from the dark corners of homes and coffee shops, bookstore and the enclosing walls of confined communities.
- To bridge stereotypes and the superficial differences of races, languages and cultures by getting engaged in our shared humanity.
The schedule includes :
- Welcome party and presentation of the participants
- Presentation/discussion : « As war starts in the mind of people, can poetry and art build defences of peace in the minds? »
- Poetry reading.
- Panel discution : Poetry in «Sufism and mysticism»
- Moroccan spiritual music shows
- Meeting with the Norwegian- Moroccan translater, writer and poet Mr. Elarbi El Maabdi. His works and achievements made him a rewarding name among official organisms and communities of intellectuals, writers and poets in Norway and Morocco.
El Maabdi will talk about his book "Arabic literature and cultural history" that offers a fascinating journey through the Arabs renaissance, golden age, chalenges from 500 - 622 AD to the 21st centery and also, gives an indication of why conditions in the Arab world are as they are today.
- Home stay : An intense immersion in Moroccan culture, and a chance to build friendship bridges between Moroccan people and our visitors.
- In the pre and post forum 4 days, will take you on an insightful journey across the most atractive cities of Morocco : Marrakech, Essaouira, Merzouga (sand dunes), Meknes, Fez, Rabat and more.

"Arabic literature and cultural history" is intended to provide a historical summary of Arabic language, literature and cultural history. Elarbi El Maabdi begins by presenting the pre-Islamic period which stretched from 500 - 622 AD, and as the years pass the reader moves through a knowledgeable cultural history with both ups and downs, development and stagnation, joy and despair. The reader is taken on a long journey through several historical sections to experience the fascinating politics, religion, revolutions, customs and social conditions of ancient times. As is well known, poetry and the art of writing have continuously kept pace with man for countless generations. By presenting historical epochs and translating some of what hired poets and writers have written, Elarbi tries to shed light on how the Arab people lived, thought and felt. This work contains translated examples of poetic stanzas, quotations and shorter prose texts from different eras, as well as some of Mu’allakat’s famous qasida which have been rewritten into Norwegian for the first time. In addition to brief biographies of poets and writers from pre-Islamic times to the present day, the author has also included highly esteemed philosophers, mathematicians and other scientists who lived in the golden age of Muslim-Caribbean civilization. The literary and cultural history presented in this book also does more than depict previous episodes and situations. The story also gives an indication of why conditions in the Arab world are as they are today. The book is therefore an interesting work which, with vigilance and creativity, depicts the past of Arab culture and its development into the present.
