Assilah is a town located on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, south of Tangier. Its old town, or medina, is surrounded by well-preserved walls and gates, built in the 15th century by Portuguese settlers. The medina is an artistic center renowned for its murals and for Moussem, an annual international cultural festival. Also in the city are the Center de Hassan II Rencontres Internationales (exhibition space) and the Raissouli Palace, dating from the early 20th century.
