4 Days Skiing in High Atlas Mountain Toubkal Area:

The Atlas mountains are one of the most exotic areas to go ski touring. To go on a skiing holiday to a country more famous for its deserts and beaches is an original experience that will certainly leave an impression.

Toubkal, with an elevation of 4167 m is the highest mountain in Northern Africa. It is surrounded by high mountains that together form a massive mountain range about 80 km south of Marrakech. The mountains position, altitude and valley surroundings means that it snows here throughout the winter.

This ski trip will take us each day to a new valley with magnificent landscape. We will live in mountain huts and gîtes (simple hotels) and we will be accompanied by a local group: a guide, a cook, carriers and donkeys that will carry our equipment when we go down the valley.

Outline Itinerary :

Day 1 : Pick up from Marrakech at 8h30 and drive to imlil where you will meet our team consit of experieced Mountain Guide, Mules, Muleteers and Porters and then start you first day trek to Toubkal Base Camp Refuge,

Day 2 : Climb the summit 4167m and skiing allthe way down to the refuge,

Day 3 :Climb the summit 4 089m Ras Ouankrim and skiing allthe way down to the refuge for lunch and after lunch skiing to the snow level and return to imlil,

High altitudes, steep couloirs, and couscous us in the area around Jbel Toubkal. The sun is strong, the Sahara is close, and the snow is African.

Africa is hardly the continent you associate with skis and snow, but the High Atlas mountain range in Morocco offers surprisingly good skiing with varying degrees of difficulty. The area around Jbel Toubkal, which is North Africa’s highest mountain at 4,167 m, is very well-suited to ski touring. A CAF-refuge (Club Alpin Français) is strategically located in a deep valley near the base of Jbel Toubkal. From here, you can reach a number of 4,000-metre peaks with relative ease, which during the winter months are snow covered.

ITINERARY:

Day 1: Arrived at Marrakech, Reception by our staff, Hotel.
visit of famous beautiful and charming red, dynastic city of marrakech-lane-souk-tomb-museums, coranic schools, rampart-mosques, minarets, palate, gardens.

Day 2: Transfer in 4X4 or Minibus with your monitor skier and the supply of all the week.
Towards Imlil 65 kms, One hour,1750m preparation of the day. You can leave your useless things for the first 3 days, because we will pass again by this lodging day 5, (Muleteers, carriers, Skiing instructor which know well the descent, direction on foot to Tmsoulte 2250, often one starts there to fit the skis, direction valley of Azaden while going up towards the refuge of Lepiney (named recently Tazarhart). We can sometimes fit at 2600m- Night in the Refuge Lepiney Tazaghart 3000 m. pension complete -1muletier for 2 persones and 1 carrier almost by anybody, you will carry your skis on arrival of snow, the carrier carries your bag and supply.

Day 3: Rise at 7AM, leave fitted towards 9H00, to go up to the beautiful Col Aguelzim 3500m- by zigzagant, descent by ski towards refuge of Toubkal 3200m- 500 m night in complete pension.

Day 4: Go up to ski at the Toubkal-4167m Top, with a carrier and a Monitor, descent to the same refuge Toubkal 3200m, rise of 4 H, 1000m, and same thing in descent.

Day 5: Go up at Top N Ouanoukrim 4080m and descent to the same refuge lunch and carrier towards Sidi Chemharouch 2300m, mules for Imlil 1750m, lodging at home, hot shower, pension complete.

Day 6: To go up on foot and mules without carriers towards OUSAROU 2400m-Camp and rise of top IGUENOUANE 3800m beautiful top of the course, superb sight on the valley of Tachedirt and neighbouring tops (Angour 3600m-Likkemt 3600m-Aksoual 3920m).descente after midday towards the same camp, etape of 8H30.

Day 7: Discovered of the Imenane valley on foot while going up towards Oukaimden by col EDDI 2900m, then possibility of fitting the skis of the collar while climbing towards famous the crete skiable of 2900 m to 3300m, and beautiful descente by the station of Oukaimden, the highest station in Africa 3260m – lunch and the car will take us to Marrakech.Hotel , night and Diner.

8 Days Ski Touring In Toubkal Massif - Morocco

We can't belive that in Morocco, in north of Africa, we can do ski, yes you can do it in a wonderful situation. You can try it and you will want to do it again. Enjoy the winter months in the High Atlas. Morocco's mountains are a paradise for snow climbers and ski fans.
During this trip we are likely to encounter a variety of snow conditions from very soft to hard and icy. Generally at this time of the year the snow is in excellent condition for skiing.
Typically we will ski for 6 - 8 hours each day. It will be necessary at some points to carry skis and to ascend using crampons.
The downhill slopes will be maximum 35 degrees. This holiday is suitable for experienced off-piste skiers. Participants should have very good control of turns and stops, particularly on hard slopes. In addition the relatively high altitudes encountered will mean that a good level of physical fitness is also required.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival to Marrakech

Arrive in Marrakech, night at hotel. free sightseeing around the old city of Marrakech

Day 2 - Marrakech - Imlil - Toubkal refuge base camp

Drive to Imlil, ski trip up to refuge at 3200 m, which takes 5 hours and is 1400 meter climb. For this stage the mules will carry our equipment to the refuge. Night in the refuge

Day 3 - climb Mount Ouanoukrim peak

We go to Ouanoukrim peak 4088m and ski down to the refuge. 5 hours. Clocheton corridor at 3963 m and ski back to refuge.

Day 4 - Climb Mount Clocheton

We climb mount Clocheton corridor at 3963 m and ski back to refuge. 5 hours.

Day 5 - Mount Toubkal Climb

Toubkal, 4167 m and ski down the Imhouzer valley, 1700 m downhill north facing, magnificent! The night is spent in Imlil (2350 m).

Day 6 - Morning drive To Tachdirte and climb Tizi Likemt

Likemnt Pass 3555m-Tachdirte. Drive from Imlil in the morning and climb Tizi Likemt (3555 m) with the night

Day 7 - Climb Bouyguenoun peak - return to Imlil - Marrakech

Ski Morning & Return to Imlil. Iguenouan (3882 m) descending to Imlil (1740). return to Marrakech in the evening, a night at hotel for return the next day.

Day 8 - fly back home:

Return to Marrakesh.
