The Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque🕌
The Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque is a historic mosque located in Fez El-Bali in the Moroccan city of Fez. The mosque was built in the year 859 AD by Fatima al-Fihri during the Idrisid era. The mosque was later expanded to become a scientific center during the Beni Marin period in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries AD. The mosque was also expanded and new sections were added during the Saadian and Alawite periods. In 1963, the mosque was transformed into the University of Al-Qarawiyyin, which is the oldest university in the world where teaching is still ongoing. The mosque was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1981, as part of the Medina of Fez.
