Buphaya (ဘူးဘုရားေစတီ)

Although Buphaya is not one of Bagan's impressive monuments,it is an attractive pagoda because of its age and location is on the bank of Irrawaddy river.It was built by King Pyusawhti in 3rd century at the place where he was quelled the giant gourd plant.
Traditionally believed that these gourd plant was grown and infestation at the bank of the river during that time.Those vines were so strong.The people from Bagan, they cut it.But,those vines were doubled sprouts in the next day.When Pyusawhti heard this new,he came and killed this plant with his magic bow and arrow.And then,it was dead.As a reward,King Thamudarit gave his daughter to marry with him.After sometimes,he became a king of Bagan dynasty.When he became a king,he built this pagoda and gave the name ''Buphaya.'' ''Buphaya'' means pagoda is like a gourd fruit shape.
Bupaya is one of the earliest pagoda in Bagan.It was also damaged and fell into the river in 1975 earthquake.So,this is only reconstruction structure of the original pagoda.The original pagoda was made of brick.But,We can see the new one as a concrete structure and has been completely gilded.It is also Pyu style building.This style is very simple without any decorations and it is very look like unique cylindrical dome.
