HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Myanmar has a long history and its greatness dates back to the early 11th Century when King Anawrahta unified the country and founded the First Myanmar Empire in Bagan. The Bagan Empire encompassed the areas of the present day Myanmar and the entire Menam Valley in Thailand and lasted two centuries. The Second Myanmar Empire was founded in 16th Century by King Bayinnaung. King Alaungpaya founded the last Myanmar Dynasty in 1752 and it was during the zenith of this Empire that the British moved into Myanmar Wars in 1825. During The Second World War, Myanmar was occupied by the Japanese from 1942 till the return of the Allied Forces in 1945. Myanmar becomes a sovereign independent state in January 1948 after more than 100 years of colonial administration.

MYEIK

The place of a long and proud nautical history and colonial era buildings

The gorgeous and remote Myeik archipelago lies in the Andaman Sea, off the coast of southern Myanmar. Myeik has a long and proud nautical history and one of the best kept collections of colonial era buildings in Southeast Asia. Mergui Archipelago comprises over 800 beautiful islands. The surrounding seas are alive with an amazing diversity of flora and fauna, very beautiful underwater scenes and marine life. The crystal clear water of the outer Mergui Archipelago are perfect for pearl farming. At present, it remains largely undiscovered by tourists.

The islands of the Myeik are popular places to dive, snorkel and enjoy the crystal clear water off the coast. On land, there are a number of lakes and lagoons, teeming with an abundance of wildlife.

Several religious buildings, stupas and sculptures can be seen on PatawPadet Island. Theindawgyi Pagoda is the biggest and most popular Pagoda in town.It offers terrific views over the Northern Islands and consist of a very small museum. Tourist can enjoy the cheap, high quality fresh seafood available from local restaurants and markets.
