Travels tips for a Westerner travelling to South Kore
🥢 Whether in a restaurant or market stall, chopsticks are the go- to cutlery. These can be found in a drawer under then table, same with napkins and spoon for soups. It’s important to know how to handle chopsticks to eat noodles, pizza, rice, kimbap and everything in between. 📟 Most restaurants have a digital dynamic menu, that is an electronic device on the table to make orders or call the staff. 🍖 BBQ and grilled meat is the most loved option for dining. You can enjoy your ordered meat on iron plates or mini charcoal grills served right in front of you. Sometimes you grill yourself and other times a waiter chef grills for you.🍛 Several side plates like bean sprouts, sautéed tofu, fish cake stir-fry, kimchi, and various pickled vegetables are served on the table for sharing, so everyone can taste equally, and can be topped up when emptied. Same with the grill in the centre of the table, grilled meat is to be shared. 👨🍳 Some restaurants do not have waiters - you order yourself, you serve yourself, and some other times you grill meats yourself. This was the strangest for us since when we had to cook we weren’t sure exactly when and how. ✂️ Scissors and thongs are the chefs best friend in the BBQ. Scissors are used to chop and cut meat, fish, kimchi and everything else. The overall Korean dining experience left us both baffled and in awe due to being very different. We were choosing random restaurants and having a new experience every day.

Before starting our journey on the mountain, we showed our appreciation to the Porter crew, thanking them for their hard work and presenting them with 50 pairs of shoes. They sang for us - happiness shown on their faces; a small treat for them before embarking on the grueling days ahead.
What an amazing feeling to give!
