We have launched Red and Wine, the first merchant of Hungarian wines in Malta, to introduce the quality wines of Hungary to the Maltese audience. We believe that despite the large amount of international wines available on the Maltese islands, local enthusiasts are not always spoilt for choice. We would like to widen the spectrum and introduce one of the new from the old world of winemaking. And w
hat country would be better than one with hundreds of years of winemaking tradition, a unique and individual range of terroirs and an up-and-coming generation of internationally acclaimed wine producers? The carefully assorted selection of our wines covers a range of styles from easy-drinking fruity whites through sweet wines to full-bodied reds. Some of the top producers are represented here, most of them previous owners of the prestigious Hungarian ‘Winemaker of the Year’ award. Besides the widely-known international grape varieties, we also try to concentrate on some exciting quality grapes traditional to Hungary such as Kékoportó (Portugieser), Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), Furmint and Zenit. They are surely to offer some new and exciting aromas and flavours and we hope they will find a warm welcome on the Maltese palates. Naturally, we have included the two most well-known wines of Hungary, the sweet Aszú from Tokaj and the premium Bull’s Blood of the Eger region, both from the north eastern part of Hungary. Our Aszú (Royal Tokaji) is a multiple international medal winner while the Bull’s Blood (Áldás) is arguably one of the best examples of this quintessential favourite. The styles, the techniques, the craft in all of our wines …all there for you to try. Interested? Give them a try!
