*Ethiopians trained Lions to capture the soldiers of the enemy and fought side by side with Cheetahs, bees, and lions in 1896* 🇪🇹

Ethiopian soldiers with their fighting lions. The Ethiopians went to war with dangerous animals and insects such as bees, wasps, lions, or cheetahs trained to capture the soldiers of the enemy camp, which enabled them to win all the wars of colonization against them and to be the only country in the world to have never been colonized. At the battle of Adwa Ethiopian warriors skilled in sword fighting called Shotel destroyed the invading Italian soldiers in hand to hand combat.

The Battle of Adwa was the climactic battle of the First Italo-Ethiopian War. The Ethiopian forces defeated the Italian invading force on Sunday 1 March 1896, near the town of Adwa. The decisive victory thwarted the campaign of the Kingdom of Italy to expand its colonial empire in the Horn of Africa.

The Ethiopians surrounded the Italians for two weeks and, upon Empress Tayitu's advice, cut off the fort's water supply. The Italian commander agreed to surrender if they would be allowed to leave with their fi****ms. Menelik agreed that they could leave the garrison unharmed.

The first Car in Malawi

While John Moir brought the first bicycle in 1894, the first vehicle in Nyasaland came in 1908 .

The first accident happened along the Zomba Blantyre Road.

The vehicle fell into a river, the steering got broken and a whole village volunteered to hand lift it back to the road for free.

THE MALIPENGA DANCE IN NKHATA BAY DISTRICT

Malipenga dance is probably the most celebrated traditional dance in Nkhata Bay District. Malipenga (meaning Trumpets) dance owes it's origin to the system of military parades introduced into Malawi during the colonial times, particularly after the end of the First World War, by members of the Kings African Rifles (KAR). Many people in Nkhata Bay enlisted as soldiers in the KAR and together with the British, waged war against the Germans.

After the end of the war in 1918, the Nkhata Bay veterans returned home, well drilled in the art of parades and participation in military bands. From this experience, the Tongas emulated everything they had learned during military
service. They also adopted the British way of administration.
For example, a Malipenga group is known as a Boma. A Boma
has its own independent Constitution and Administrative
structure. The success of the Boma therefore is the success of
the whole community. A venue of the Malipenga is also called
a Boma. A good shade under a huge tree is usually chosen, usually a Mango, to give spectators ample place for watching the dance.

Malipenga songs include;. Mungore, Akapunda (The Conqueror) and Muganda wa Chitonga.

Malape Pillars may not be as well-known as Mount Mulanje or Lake Malawi but these mysterious sandstone formations nesting deep in the the trees at the foot of the verdantly-forested Chikala Hills (reason others call them Chikala pillars, though the locals do not agree).

This is in Machinga District. The ‘pillars’ form due to puddles of crystals which protect the columns of grit underneath as the rains erode the surrounding unprotected areas. As the sides of the canyon erode and the crystal blocks tumble off, beautifully sculpted pinnacles remain
