OECD Policy Responses to Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Rebuilding Tourism for the Future:

Tourism continues to be one of the sectors hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic and the outlook remains highly uncertain.

Others expects international tourism to fall by around 80% in 2021. Destinations that rely heavily on international, business and events tourism are particularly struggling, with many coastal, regional and rural areas faring better than cities.

Encouraging news on vaccines has boosted hopes for recovery but challenges remain, with the sector expected to remain in survival mode until well into 2021.

Domestic tourism has restarted and is helping to mitigate the impact on jobs and businesses in some destinations. However, real recovery will only be possible when international tourism returns. This requires global co-operation and evidence-based solutions so travel restrictions can be safely lifted.

The survival of businesses throughout the tourism ecosystem is at risk without continued government support.

Key policy priorities include:

Restoring traveller confidence

Supporting tourism businesses to adapt and survive

Promoting domestic tourism and supporting safe return of international tourism

Providing clear information to travellers and businesses, and limiting uncertainty (to the extent possible)

Evolving response measures to maintain capacity in the sector and address gaps in supports

Strengthening co-operation within and between countries

Building more resilient, sustainable tourism

While flexible policy solutions are needed to enable the tourism economy to live alongside the virus in the short to medium term, it is important to look beyond this and take steps to learn from the crisis, which has revealed gaps in government and industry preparedness and response capacity. Co-ordinated action across governments at all levels and the private sector is essential.

The crisis is an opportunity to rethink tourism for the future. Tourism is at a crossroads and the measures put in place today will shape the tourism of tomorrow. Government need to consider the longer-term implications of the crisis, while capitalising on digitalisation, supporting the low carbon transition, and promoting the structural transformation needed to build a stronger, more sustainable and resilient tourism economy.

Protect yourself and others from COVID-19_WHO

Today COVID-19 is spreading rapidly in our communities, stay safe by taking some simple precautions, such as physical distancing, wearing a mask, keeping rooms well ventilated, avoiding crowds, cleaning your hands, and coughing into a bent elbow or tissue.

What to do to keep yourself and others safe from COVID-19:

Maintain at least a 1-metre distance between yourself and others to reduce your risk of infection when they cough, sneeze or speak.

Maintain an even greater distance between yourself and others when indoors. The further away, the better.

Make wearing a mask a normal part of being around other people. The appropriate use, storage and cleaning or disposal are essential to make masks as effective as possible.

Here are the basics of how to wear a mask:

Clean your hands before you put your mask on, as well as before and after you take it off, and after you touch it at any time.

Make sure it covers both your nose, mouth and chin.

When you take off a mask, store it in a clean plastic bag, and every day either wash it if it’s a fabric mask, or dispose of a medical mask in a trash bin.

It may sound silly, but I love adventure. Yes, I’ve been to dozens of places, I’ve seen the good sides of traveling, and I’m not supposed to get excited by just words, but being there.

Traveling is not an easy task. A lot of times, you just feel down and lonely and question if it’s really worth it (yes it is).
It’s strange how just a few words can change your mood entirely and let you see things from another perspective.

Maybe you need that extra push to book your one/two way ticket(s),

DANCES OF MALAWI
INGOMA

Ingoma is a very famous dance among the NGONI of Mzimba and Mchinji Districts. Like Ngoma of Ntcheu and Dedza Districts, it was originally a war dance performed after a successful battle.

The men in Ingoma are elaborately decorated. Their costume includes a headgear made of feathers, ornaments worn on the limbs, a network of beads wrapped across the chest and stomach, and around the neck hang various types of animal skin.

They carry a spear or club and a shield. The women wear ordinary 'Chilundu' (a piece of cloth) from the waist downwards, and a blouse and a head gear called 'DUKU'.

In the Ingoma dance, men dance in straight lines while women form lines on the side of the men. Men sing and stamp their feet, wielding their shields, spears and clubs by symbolising a war scene while the women sing, clap and ulutate in unison with the men's dance performance.

MUMBO_ISLAND_CAMP_LAKE_MALAWI_NATIONAL_PARK.

Mumbo Island is a pristine and otherwise-deserted tropical island floating on the blue waters of Lake Malawi National Park, the first Park in the world set aside for the protection of freshwater fish.

With crystal clear waters and innumerable species of cichlid fish, the National Park offers what is often considered the best freshwater scuba diving in the world and the best snorkelling on the Lake.
