Interesting Facts About Lions:

1. Lions are carnivorous animals that primarily feed on zebras and buffaloes for sustenance.
2. Female lions undertake most hunting responsibilities, collaborating to secure food.
3. The feeding hierarchy is patriarchal, with males eating first, followed by females and then their offspring.
4. Lions can consume up to 7 kg of meat in a single meal and survive without food for up to 3 days.
5. Lionesses typically give birth to 2-6 "babies" in secluded, sheltered locations.
6. Newborn lions remain concealed for several weeks, relying on their mother's milk for nutrition.
7. Lions reside in collective groups known as prides, comprising females, their progeny, and select males.
8. Male lions safeguard their territorial boundaries through vocalizations and scent markings.
9. A hierarchical structure exists within prides, with males assuming leadership roles and females maintaining their own rankings.
10. Occasionally, newly dominant male lions assume control of a pride, potentially euthanizing existing offspring to establish their own lineage.

Ever wondered why this majestic Waterbuck sports a distinctive circle on its rear? Here’s a playful tale from the wild:

Long ago, this magnificent creature roamed without the iconic mark on its behind. Legend has it that one fateful day, a Waterbuck took a seat on a not-so-dry toilet seat, leaving behind a perfectly round imprint. And boom– the circle was born! 😅😅🦌💧🚽

Today, the Waterbuck is known far and wide for its unique “toilet seat” pattern, and it's a favorite story among visitors to our national parks. So next time you spot a Waterbuck, remember – it’s not just any circle; it’s a symbol of wildlife humor and nature’s quirks!

DID YOU KNOW?

As opposed to what many might think, crocodiles do have tongues. However, they are held in place by a membrane on the roof of their mouth, which prevents them from moving their tongues freely or sticking them out. This adaptation helps them avoid choking on water while submerged.

The s*x of baby crocodiles is determined by the temperature of their nest, where warmer conditions typically result in males and cooler ones in females.

The expression "crocodile tears" comes from the observation that crocodiles seem to cry when eating. However, these tears are not emotional but result from air being forced through their sinuses, triggering their tear glands.

Crocodiles swallow small stones called gastroliths, which help them grind up food in their stomachs, aiding digestion.

Lab20 Innovations, in collaboration with Lab20 Tours and Safaris, has donated MWK 2,000,000 to Joggers on the Move (JOM). This contribution supports their fundraising efforts to purchase a solar system for Matekenya Health Centre in Dowa, enhancing healthcare services for the community.

The cheque presentation ceremony took place at our office in Area 9, opposite Civo Stadium, next to Malawi Digital and Broadcasting Network. We are proud to support JOM and their mission to improve healthcare in our community.

We believe in giving back to the community and supporting initiatives that make a real difference. By partnering with JOM, we are helping to ensure that Matekenya Health Centre can provide better care with reliable solar power.

One of the wild dogs in Liwonde is pregnant…WDF5 is due to give birth in the next three weeks! 🐾

This is a wonderful step forward for Liwonde National Park’s wild dogs. We have the privilege and responsibility to monitor WDF5’s pack, which was translocated earlier this year from South Africa by African Parks, DNPW Malawi, and Endangered Wildlife Trust with the support of the Deutsche Postcode Lotterie.

The Stone House in Livingstonia, Malawi, is a significant historical landmark with a rich heritage. Built in 1903 by the Scottish missionary Dr. Robert Laws, the house served as his residence and symbolizes the early missionary efforts in the region. Dr. Laws, a prominent figure in the establishment of Livingstonia, aimed to create a self-sufficient mission that included education, medical care, and agricultural development.

Constructed with locally sourced stone, the house showcases colonial architecture and stands as a testament to the craftsmanship of that era. The Stone House also functioned as an administrative center for the Livingstonia Mission, which played a crucial role in spreading Christianity and Western education in Malawi.

Today, the Stone House operates as a museum, preserving the history of Livingstonia and the missionary activities that greatly influenced the region's development. It houses various artifacts, photographs, and documents that provide insight into the life and work of Dr. Robert Laws and the impact of the mission on the local community. The house remains a popular tourist attraction, reflecting the cultural and historical legacy of Livingstonia.

Yesterday, our hearts danced with joy as we stepped beyond our usual boundaries. Lab20 Innovations (our Media-Tech company) and Lab20 Tours and Safaris joined forces to create something truly beautiful.

Our journey through Malawi’s breathtaking landscapes isn’t just about exploring destinations; it’s about touching lives along the way. And yesterday, we witnessed the incredible work of Temwa Chilenga at the Zoe Foundation in Lilongwe, Area 25.

Temwa houses and feeds 90 children, nurturing their dreams and empowering them to reach for the stars. Her passion mirrors ours—the same dedication that fuels our daily work. From animal and crop farming collaborations to baking local delicacies like Chigumu and fleeters (mandasi), Temwa radiates positivity.

As we continue crafting beautiful experiences for our clients, we’ve decided to extend that beauty to these precious souls; because we believe that sometimes, the most beautiful moments happen when a community comes together.

Thank you, Temwa, for inspiring us. And to everyone supporting this incredible adventure, your kindness amplifies the impact.
