Follow Me PV’s Top 10 must-do ideas in Vallarta and the Bay area:
1. Have a street taco – yup, I know it can cause you to cringe and think of spending time in the hotel washroom, but many places in Vallarta have come a long way and the best way to find a good stand is to look for a place that has running water, where the locals are and even check out trip advisor as many people have posted their experiences.
2. Pack a lunch and head to a beach out side of Puerto Vallarta, like Destiladeras! Vallarta has many hidden treasures, including beaches that locals enjoy. Destiladeras is an expansive hide-away beach with spectacular views and is a short 30 minute drive north.
3. Take a walk at dusk on the beach. Vallarta is known for its outstanding sunsets, be sure to have your camera ready!
4. Try a new food, like fruit with chili, tamales or Mexican style vegetarian – (check out our fav spot, Planeta!) when dining out, choose something off the menu that you have not had before. Mexican cuisine is extensive and just because Ol El Paso doesn’t make it, doesn’t mean it couldn’t be your new favorite thing!
5. Take a drive south to Boca de Tomatlan and a water taxi to Ocean Grill. An amazing restaurant in a lovely cove, provides the back drop, and a fresh swim. Check out www.oceangrillvallarta.com for reservations.
6. Spend a night in Yelapa. Accessible by water taxi, take an evening to spend under the stars and explore the area. Hike to the waterfalls, go horseback riding or just unwind with a cold Corona. www.yelapa.info
7. Spend a day in Sayulita – originally a small surf town, Sayulita is full of unique shopping and delicious eateries such as the famous Choco-Banana. Take a surf lesson or sit under an umbrella and watch the waves roll in.
8. Food Tours! Either organized or not, do a progressive dining experience and start with an appetizer and beverage and then move on! Challenge yourself to try something new, share it, so if you don’t like it, no problema! A great food tour company is www.vallartafoodtours.com
9. Volunteer. There are so many great organizations that can use help. You can choose where to spend your time or money; cats, dogs, turtles, kids, woman, seniors, teaching a skill, or attending a fundraising event…countless options.
10. Spend the day at Los Mu***os beach sipping cold beverages and getting your feet massaged. Putting your feet up and enjoying your fav cocktail all the while someone massages your hard worked feet! Vendors charge a VERY reasonable price for this blissful experience.
