If you are planning a trip to La Paz to snorkel with the gentle giants remind you that according with the new legislation to protect the whale sharks this is only possible from October 1st to April 30th. Any operator offering you tours out of that period of time is not respecting the directives to protect them! do not support those business. Thank you ))

Archipielago de Revillagigedo - From November to June, I have had the chance to dive what I consider the best dives in Mexico and definitely my best dives ever. Such a special place where the interaction with Big animals (Mantas, sharks, dolphins, whales...) is just unbelievable !

Taking a break from the Whalesharks, fulfilling a dream, I am working with the amazing Great White Sharks for another couple of weeks.
The opportunity for me to tell you more about those beautiful and graceful animals that i get to discover from very (very!) close.

Great White Sharks...I wish I could share more about the emotions that we go through when we have these majestics sharks swimming around us: it s not scary, it s not a monstruous animal, it is not a psychopatic killer.
The common feeling is how impressive they are, how gracefully they slide in the water, how beautifully efficient they fade in the ocean and, for myself, I had to fight many times against that urge to just jump out of the cage and swim along one of these beauties, as I could feel their curiosity and peace of mind.
I know everybody looks for impressive pics, what the TV shows us, big scary teeth, the beast unleashed, the Apex predator tearing to piece the bait or chewing the cage...and these moments happen, they are a real part of these animals.
But they are not crazy monsters, and you would be surprised to see how carefull they are before taking a bite, circling around for dozens of minute, approaching slowly and checking out all their surroundings before going for an attempt of a bite. And actually, many times, they are just hanging curious around the cages and do not pay interest to the bloody piece of tuna.
They are very intelligent in their approaches, very aware of their environment and not as agressive as they are painted on TV.
I ll be back there in september, can`t wait.

Sad news these days as our beloved Whalesharks are being put on the IUCN list of endangered animals.
It is not much of a surprise though, as commercial fishing for shark fins is more intense than ever.
Whalesharks also suffer many impacts from human activity, very often seen, as scares and open wounds, and sometimes more discreet with water contamination.
What to do?
Donate to research organization, that push governments to take strong conservation actions,
Raise awareness around you about sharks extinction coming soon, and avoid fishing them,
Protect the ocean, as much as you can, in your daily life.
Respect, protect and enjoy the Ocean and its wonders.

New destination, more Whalesharks ! Come and join me in the clear blue water of the riviera Maya, from Playa del Carmen, Cancun or Tulum.
Our friendly giants are swimming around this side of Mexico from June to September, and it is a unique chance to swim alongside these beautiful animals. And sometimes you will be lucky to see a ballet of manta rays, the most graceful rays in the world - and also harmless.

Whalesharks coming early to get their hand-fed breakfast from fishermen. We dont use these tricks in La Paz, relying on our waters naturally rich in plancton.
The risk of perturbating their natural habits is high, tourism should remain sustainable...even if we have to "wait" for our sharkies a bit more from time to time.

It took LAMAVE three years and over 6200 hours spent in the water to bring us to where we are today. Studying the behaviour and its change in an animal like the whale shark, which can live up to 10…

Bon Appetit! Plancton is the base of the food chain in the ocean, these tiny microscopic animals and plants feeding all the habitants of the ocean, from fish larvae to giant whalesharks.
At microscopic level, their world is colorful, intriguing, fierce and very diverse.

Remember we also eat them everytime we swallow sea water

This cute, newly hatched baby whaleshark is a very rare encounter! Fished by fishermen in the Maldives, it was brought to scientis for study, then tagged and released.
We have no idea where and how whalesharks give birth.
Let´s wish this one good luck to survive and hope to see him big and strong soon!
