México must do - Isla mujeres:
Just a little overview for those of you want to do a bit of exploring.
If you’re staying In Cancun you can just head to Playa Tortugas or Puerto Juárez and catch an ultramar ferry to the island of isla mujeres. The ferry costs around $19pp and runs every hour so don’t worry too much about your timings although earlier is always better and the timetables can be found on their website. If you are in the Riviera Maya try visiting the ultramar website. They do a ticket which will pick you up from Playa del Carmen and includes the ground transportation plus the ferry for $39pp.
Once you arrive on the island you’ll find plenty of shops, bars and restaurants on the main strip but explore a little further and you find Playa Norte, Turtle Sanctuary, Ice Bar, Corona Drive-thru, Archeological sites and drive-thru cemetery. (Photos attached).
I would always recommend renting a golf kart so you can see the entire island. There are plenty of shops and sellers on the street who offer these so again no need to pre book. They cost between 250-350 pesos per hour but I would recommend getting the half day option which gives you time to see everything. This will cost between 750-900 pesos. Personally I like to use coco cart rental which was a 3-4 minute walk from the ferry terminal turning left and walking on the main strip. They were at the lower end of that price scale and there was no messing around.
The island has one main road that runs all the way around it so don’t worry about maps just go and do your own thing. It’s really simple.
When I finish exploring I like to spend my afternoons at Playa Norte. This is genuinely one of the nicest beaches you will find in Mexico. A little hidden gem which a lot of people miss is the lagoon area at the top of Playa Norte. As you walk down onto the beach towards the water turn right and walk all the way to the top. This takes around 5 minutes but the area is amazing. (Photo attached).
