El pueblo teotihuacano acostumbraba a hacer ofrenda en honor a los fallecidos casi todo el tiempo, practicando cansados pero intensos rituales con el propósito de que el difunto llegase con bien a uno de los cuatro paraísos según su forma de muerte, conteniendo comida, copal, vasijas, cuchillos, piedras de jade y semillas; utilizaban a los perros xoloescuintles para que les ayudasen a ser la luz en el paso por el inframundo y no se perdieran sin antes llegar al paraíso, sacrificándolos y enterrándolos junto con la persona fallecida.
Los teotihuacanos consideraban subsectores a donde se dirigían sus difuntos según su edad:
Subsector I: En este recinto se encontraban los difuntos jóvenes y aquellos que no alcanzaron a nacer. Se les enterraba en posición fetal en la tierra.
Subsector II: A este sector se dirigían los adolescentes, encontrándose en sus ofrendas distintos vegetales y huesos pertenecientes a animales.
Subsector III: En este lugar pertenecían los adultos, tantos varones y mujeres. A estos difuntos se les colocaba en vasijas grandes de barro prosiguiendo con el crematorio. Se creía que en este lugar prevalecía la abundancia y la paz eterna. En su ofrenda se encontraban cañas de azúcar y comidas típicas.
Subsector IV: A este lugar se dirigían los adultos mayores (ancianos), colocándose hogueras de madera para la cremación de los cuerpos. Se creía que los ancianos regresaban a la Tierra después de la muerte en forma de animales.
