Even though San Pancho is called the Sunset Capital of the World, the sunrises can be equally breathtaking. This is our morning walk on the polo road.

Every airline passenger flying to the U.S. from a foreign country (including Mexico) must present a negative Covid-19 test result or documentation of recovery before boarding is allowed.

Click below for all of the details.

For our San Pancho guests, testing is available in nearby Sayulita, as well as Punta de Mita and Bucerias.

The CDC within the HHS issued an Order on January 12, 2021 requiring proof of a negative COVID-19 test or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 for all air passengers arriving from a foreign country to the US.

Have you spotted the International Space Station yet? You can watch it soar across the night sky from the terrace. Visit this website and enter "Puerto Vallarta" for your location. The viewing times will be a little bit off for San Pancho, so position yourself early. Fun for free!

See the International Space Station! As the third brightest object in the sky the space station is easy to see if you know when to look up.

Creamy and sweet, tres leches cake is on the rise

Confession: We eat this for breakfast (um, lunch and dinner too).

Tres leches cake, one of the most popular desserts in Latin America, is riding a new wave of interest during the pandemic.

COVID-19 UPDATE
Like in many countries, there are hot spots of the virus in Mexico, and regions where the transmission rate is low. However, testing is not widespread and reported data can be inaccurate.

In San Pancho, our hospital treats symptomatic people from the region. It also sends patients to larger hospitals in Puerto Vallarta. Those with private Mexican health insurance can go to private hospitals in Bucerias and Nuevo Vallarta. Sadly, several elderly San Pancho residents have died.

WHAT'S OPEN
October is the end of the rainy season, or the low season. Some restaurants are now open, plus take-out is available. Servers wear masks. Fortunately, outdoor dining is the norm all year.

The grocery markets and pharmacies remain open all year.

In November, more restaurants and shops will re-open.

Everyone is supposed to wear masks.

TRAVEL SAFETY
After months of home confinement, it's understandable to want to escape to San Pancho for a much-needed (and deserved) vacation.

If you choose to travel—wherever you go—continue to be vigilant in protecting yourselves and others.

You know the drill: when you leave home, cover nose and mouth with a mask, maintain a social distance, carry (and use) hand sanitizer, wash hands with soap and water.

CASA MAR AZUL PRECAUTIONS
We're allowing up to 72 hours between guest stays. Before you arrive, Casa Mar Azul will have been deep cleaned, sanitized and aired out by the fresh ocean breeze.

We ask you to bring multiple face masks and hand sanitizer (we still provide hand soap and body wash). Our team members wash their hands before entering, wear face masks, and keep their distance.

STAY SAFE
Only you can decide if you feel it's safe to travel. If you do, we urge you to invest in travel insurance with "Cancel for any reason" coverage.

BE KIND, BE RESPECTFUL, BE FORGIVING
Especially to yourself.

Let's be hopeful that a powerful treatment or, even better, a safe vaccine will make it safe to travel again. If you're a U.S. citizen, be ready with a current passport.

If yours will expire in less than 12 months, start your renewal now. The U.S. Department of State has significantly reduced passport operations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect its workforce. Renewal could take a couple of months.

Like other countries, Mexico has closed non-essential businesses and directed residents to stay home.

While our state of Nayarit has only 59 reported cases of COVID-19 so far, San Pancho is preparing for exponential spread.

Mexico does not have a safety net, leaving its people to lean on their families and community for help. There are several vetted ways to help those who've lost their jobs, local medical workers at the hospital, and pets whose owners can no longer afford their care and food.

If you'd like to join others in helping this beloved community, here's how:

Entreamigos is operating a weekly food bank each Friday. You can donate on its website (see Comments for link).

SPSolidarity is buying Personal Protective Equipment for hospital workers as well as medical equipment. You can donate online (see Comments for link).

San Pancho Animales is providing essential care and food for dogs and cats. You can donate on its website (see Comment for link).

The exchange rates of the US$ and Canadian$ are at record levels right now, so a donation in either currency will go a long way.

Muchas gracias, amigos! We look forward to welcoming you back when it's safe. Stay well.

Our peaceful village is now even more quiet as the coronavirus approaches the Riviera Nayarit.

San Pancho's schools have been closed, as well as restaurants, shops and our weekly market.

Our grocery and produce markets and the tortilla factory remain open, as well as the pharmacies. Construction continues, including new projects, which provides needed jobs.

One of the charms of this village is its community spirit. In San Pancho, we help each other. Community Facebook posts include multiple "I'm able and available, let me know how I can help you" offers.

People are practicing social distancing and taking other recommended precautions.

At Casa Mar Azul, we've scrubbed, laundered, dry cleaned, steam cleaned and disinfected everything. We are ready to welcome you back when this has passed.

In the meantime, stay safe, be well, and look forward to listening to the sound of waves, supervising the pelicans, and napping in the hammock.
