On the coast of Quintana Roo is a part of the Great Barrier Reef of the Caribbean 💦, also known as the Mesoamerican Reef System. It is the second largest coral reef system in the world and extends from the Yucatan Peninsula to Honduras.

The coral reefs in Quintana Roo are home to an incredible diversity of marine species💙. You can find more than 65 species of coral, around 500 species of fish and a wide variety of crustaceans, mollusks and other marine organisms.

🌴To protect the coral reefs and their marine environment, several national parks have been established in Quintana Roo. The most notable are the Cozumel Arrecifes National Park, the Puerto Morelos Arrecife National Park and the Tulum National Park. These protected areas allow for reef conservation and provide opportunities for diving and snorkeling.
