Seth's Spartan Travels

I know I’m always Johnny-come-lately and I’m sure most of those who knew her already know but I have to acknowledge when a Spartan has laid on their shield.

April was the human equivalent of a live wire, injecting energy wherever she was with her rapid-fire speech and inability to sit still. I still remember her interview at SolarCity, in which I thought, “She’s either gonna be phenomenal or she’s gonna crash and burn in epic fashion but there won’t be any middle ground with her!”

Although we bumped heads a couple of times in the beginning (who doesn’t with me??) because trying to get her to focus on her calls was like herding a bunch of cats, she turned out to be the former and I gladly recruited her to another company I worked for after SolarCity.

There are a few people who epitomized our Spartan creed: Felix Ucan Jr., Jessica Skali, Demetruis Barber, Tamy Nicole Love, Kalie Malin, just to name a brief few…(but I love all my Spartans!!) And I can easily say April was definitely one of them!! Rest easy chica!

Fellow Spartans, let’s give her one final call…

I only get to say this every 4 years but Happy Birthday Mom!! Not a day goes by without me thinking of you and you have no idea how much I miss and love you. I miss our chats while we cooked, our once-a-week dates, and later in life, our smoke sessions…

Haven’t posted a PSA in awhile. This was born from a conversation with my Dad…

- Don’t leave me a voicemail. Thats a guarantee I won’t get the information. Text me.
- If you have left me a message, don’t wait on me getting back to you. Text me.
- YEAH, I’m that guy that will look at my phone ringing and will wait for it to stop in order to text you back. Not all of the time. And not to everyone. But I do it. What??
- Same goes for voice text messages. I don’t need a minute-long voice message with 5 seconds of it saying you’re on your way and the other 55 seconds of it a mixture of you dropping the phone, cursing out the idiot that just cut you off, asking Bae Bae for that piece of candy she’s hiding from you cause you ain’t supposed to have any sweets, and you forgetting your reason for sending me the message in the first place.

Text me.

I’m old-school. I’m more confident in my ability to scan a text for the important stuff than your ability to leave a short, concise, informative voicemail that gives me exactly what I need. No more. No less.

Y’all might want to file this away with the rest of my warning labels in case you have to quickly get someone up to speed when dealing with me. I’m updating my “Is it a bug? Or is it a feature?” section…

Love you all like play cousins that borrowed $50 from me back in ‘89 and haven’t seen you since!

To all my brothers and sisters in arms out there. Especially the ones that didn’t come home and the ones not getting the help they need. Don’t give us a fu***ng “day” to get free breakfast somewhere or to give everyone else a day off. Help us by recognizing how and where OUR country continuously falls short in taking care of our needs. I had to be reminded what today was. I don’t need a day to “remember and honor” veterans. I do it everyday!
