Guanajuato Birding Adventures
Our mission is to get you closer to the natural heritage of Guanajuato through bird watching tours in protected natural areas. Our vision is for Guanajuato to become the best destination for bird watching in Mexico.
Bird watching is one of the most practiced outdoor activities in the United States of America and Canada; It is estimated that in our northern neighbor there are around 82 million birdwatchers, out of which more than 9 million would potentially travel outside their country to watch birds. In 2006 alone, birdwatching in the United States left a spill of approximately $ 36 billion.
Mexico is home to 11% of the world's bird species (more than 1096 described species) out of which 10% are endemic, 40% are not shared with the US or Canada, and up to 50% of the shared species spend up to 8 months in our country in what is known as "winter plumage" which is different from their summer plumage, making them novel and interesting for these observers despite being the same birds.
Birdwatching in Mexico left a spill of $ 23.9 USD million in 2006, however, it has not yet tapped into the huge birding market due in large part to continued bird poaching and caged birds, but we believe that if we focus our efforts in trying to attract those travelers, very high economic benefits for the tourism and rural sector would be quickly achieved, as well as benefits for the conservation of birds and their ecosystems.
