Antes de la llegada de los colonizadores, el continente que hoy conocemos como América era llamado Abya Yala, que significa ‘tierra madura, viva, en florecimiento’. Este era el nombre dado por los guna, un pueblo originario de Colombia y Panamá. A lo largo de su historia, los guna utilizaron diferentes nombres para referirse a su territorio: Kualagum Yala, Tagargun Yala, Tinya Yala y finalmente Abya Yala, que coincidió con la llegada de los españoles. Hoy en día, muchos pueblos indígenas prefieren usar Abya Yala como nombre oficial del continente, en contraste con el nombre extranjero América, que deriva del explorador italiano del siglo XVI, Amerigo Vespucci (Américo Vespucio).❤️🤩🙃👇
