For your interest. The lot across the street is being developed. See the backhoe-loader. It will be a "Vinos Americas" wine and liquor store. Opening on to the Carretera, with unloading and parking in the lot behind on our street. The tree will remain.

I think this is good news because it will have an architect, should follow bylaws and zoning (yes those exist), and should be a reasonably good looking new build.

Are you staying in Ajijic and find it a bit too hot? Move to our central 1-bedroom Mirador Loft, available from May 20 until beginning of August. It has a new mini-split air conditioner in the bedroom which helps in the living / dining area too!

Felicitaciones to Hector España. Many of you will remember him as a long-established restauranteur, and a former Delegado for Ajijic.

He has just had the grand opening of his new location of Manix Restaurant. On Carretera Poniente, mountain side, near the Heart Centre.

Great food, local female mariachis! It was a fixed menu so I cannot yet report on the upcoming menu.

Hola friends and guests. While you are visiting your favorite vacation resort (us!) be sure to think of visiting some of our old colonial cities within an easy one-day drive or bus ride – Querétaro, Guanajuato, Morelia, San Miguel.

Today we are in Zacatecas. It was a rich silver mining town particularly 1600s to 1800s. Beautiful colonial architecture, pink sandstone, many museums including the museum of 5,000 masks. Pedestrian-friendly. We found some sidewalk cafes reminiscent of Europe. History. An ex-hacienda with 30 silversmith shops.

This will be controversial for some of you – I find the Zacatecas mezcal better than Oaxaca's - try Aztecali Reposado. Local specialty food – gorditas. Fine dining on the old bull ring. Excellent local vineyard with great restaurant.

At a higher altitude - nice weather even in the warmer months.

For the rest of 2024, we have our new 3-bedroom Casa Colorado in West Ajijic with availabilities from April to July. Great for 3-6 people short-term. Well-furnished house, private grounds including a pool.

We also have the Casita Grande, during June to November, and the Mirador Loft during May to December 17.

For next winter, we have the Mirador Loft available from March 7. If you are now in Ajijic for March, check this one out for next winter.

Our new house is now available for short term rentals!

One week (except in winter season) to a few months (lower rate for more than 28 days).

3 bedrooms, pool, secure parking for several cars. Good for 2-3 couples travelling together, or for digital nomads, maybe with a child. In Ajijic West, close to 4 very good restaurants and a very good grocery store.

Guests and friends of Casa Del Ángel Feliz know about the Festival de Febrero chamber music in February.

You may know about the summer festival here with fewer concerts but just as quality. The violinist on the far left is our guest in the Casita this month, the violist on the far right was our guest in the Casita a few years ago.

A Philip Glass string quartet, then a Brahms piano quartet (in pic), the a Tschaikovsky piece. Last night.

Tonight in Ajijic Plaza.

First was children depositing things/artifacts in a time capsule to be opened in 50 years.

Next were members from Arpas de Chapala, traditional stringed instruments of Mexico, amplified, plus a bass player. Three others from the Arpas have played on our terrace for parties.

Next was dancing by the cross-dressed sayacas, traditional in Ajijic parades. No tossed flour this time, just sparkly confetti.

Next was the spectacular aerobatic Circo de Dragón. Apparently inspired by Quetzalcoátl (the feathered serpent deity from Teotihuacán and then throughout Mesoamérica), Korean (I could be wrong about this) meat-chopping, agave, tequila, traditional dancing, and an impressively long list of Jalisco food specialties. (But I thought carnitas were more from Michoacán.)

Followed by cohuetes and fireworks.

It is the 200th birthday of Jalisco State. A mere speck in the eye of the spectrum of Mexican history.

Hello friends and guests.

We are building a new house, Casa Colorado, at La Canacinta west of Ajijic which will be available for short-term rentals, via our own website and on Airbnb, probably starting in September. One floor, 3 bedrooms, car port and a pool. Approximate 6 minute walk to the lakefront and to a couple of very good restaurants.

These are just in-construction pics including the two entrances. Notice the front door in Parota wood. A designer is designing the kitchens and bathrooms. It will look very nice.

When on your way from the airport to your favorite vacation rental (us), try to stop at the large roadside Los 3 Potrillos (ponies), the signature restaurant of the late famous singer Vicente Fernández.

Today on a Sunday afternoon on a long weekend, we had very good lamb consumee, guacamole, margarita, quesadillas, good service, and economical. There was a mariachi band, vocalist and dancers.
