Casa Karina is a luxury vacation rental in San Miguel which perfectly blends contemporary design features with eye-catching rustic elements. The attention to detail is second to none. This peaceful retreat has thought-provoking indoor and outdoor living areas which are mindfully designed to complement your mood. This stylish vacation home hosts two spacious bedrooms - each with their own private en-suite bathroom.
Casa Karina is located at the top of a quiet pedestrian alley just below San Miguel’s main lookout point. The house’s rooftop terrace captures sweeping panoramic sunset views, including sight of the town’s most famous landmark - the Parroquia de San Miguel. The rooftop of Casa Karina features a heated glass bottom swimming pool, a black marble firepit with wraparound seating, and an outdoor kitchen with a Viking barbecue grill. The terrace is complete with a half bathroom and a laundry room.
Guests enter Casa Karina via a commanding 19th-Century River Teak door which was imported from Rajasthan, India. You are immediately welcomed by a handmade hammock which sits next to a fireplace. This artisan hammock is weaved over four months in the Wayuu style prevalent in northern Colombia. The floors and beams are made from recycled hardwood ‘Trojes’ from the state of Michoacán, which is prominent in the blue tones of the kitchen’s ceiling. All of the doors in the home are made from heavy antique mesquite wood, also from Michoacán.
The living room in this luxury retreat has a double-height ceiling which fills the floor plan with natural light. The house’s rooftop swimming pool has a glass bottom which serves as a skylight, casting a subtle teal hue throughout the home. This unique effect is due to the small, polished glass beads that possess an individual brilliance. Casa Karina’s artwork makes use of thick wood as a canvas. All the pieces are by Lola Picó - a local artist originally from Lleida, Spain.
The ground floor hosts one of the spacious bedroom suites, which opens up to the main living room area. This bedroom is furnished with a king-sized bed and has a fireplace. The en-suite bathroom features a double vanity with sinks upscaled from coffee mortars, quartzite counters, and tan river stone flooring. The room is complete with a bathtub and shower.
The chef’s kitchen perfectly blends contemporary functionality with attractive vintage-chic finishes. The open kitchen features a complete range of Viking appliances, including a professional oven, a dishwasher, and a French door refrigerator. The counters are finished in raw quartzite while the basin sink is made from a large river stone. The ground floor also includes a bar area, which is stocked with mezcal and wine for guests’ enjoyment.
The second bedroom in Casa Karina is located on the upper level and also features a king-sized bed and a fireplace. This bedroom also has a cozy reading nook/window seat which captures sight of the Parroquia. The en-suite bathroom is finished with grey shaved stone flooring, a river stone sink, and a large walk-in shower.
Additional rooms on the upper floor include a TV room with a custom L-shaped sofa and an office with a desk and a Balinese day bed. This can accommodate an extra adult or two children, putting the sleeping capacity of the home at six.
