Food Review #91.

Dapur Khayu, Kota marudu.

Been awhile since last posting. But this shop worth mentioning.

The decor and interior will take u back to the 70s. Very good atmosphere and interesting.

Food wise, average portion, lots of variety. The taste bit above average. Kota Marudu is a very developed town so there are lots of options here. Good food and taste better than some town in Sabah.

5 days spent here give me time to review lots of places.

Return? Of course.

Food Review #90.

Satay Jawi, Gaya Street, KK.

This is their new branch. Previously they have one at Likas roundsbout but i never try. Thats a big mistake.

I decided to try this new place and my 1st order was mee Pangsit. Good portion, and lots of ingredients, but i still the one in Sembulan.

Then i saw table next to me ordered ayam penyet, and being and expert food connesiur i know the sambal is good. So i odered ayam geprek.

What happened? After another plate of nasi tambah, I was right. This has become one of my favorite joint. The price is bit pricey for me but still standard rate in KK. Everytime i eat there, another nasi tambah is a must. But have to ask for extra sambal, the standard one is not enough. Ayam bakar also nice.

Camping Review.

Minakit, Kota Belud.

One of most famous in Sabah for camping. To access to the campsite, you will need 4x4. Else u have to park at the curve, call the CO to fetch u with his 4x4 and it will be rm30 return.

The place is very nice. Good stream and clean water. Its tagal so u can see lots of fishes and feed them PROPER fish food.

At night its total darkness, very few lighting and toilet quite far. And lots of mosquitoes at night, bring your own repellent. We enjoyed our time there, it also have kitchen area with sink and electricity for common use.

Very refreshing with clean air. Only big setback was theres a campsite nearby and the blast their karaok till 3am. But we are too tired and slept whole night.

Camping Review.

Himbaan Gardenstay, Bundu Tuhan.

Located just below most famous Hounon Ridge. At first i tought googlemap made mistake and took me to Hounon.

They have better facilities than hounon and mainly focus on homestay/chalet. But camping area still well facilitated. I had a very big campsite, at rm25/night. Well lighting at night, have sink and electricity point. The setback was toilet is very far and have to walk 3mins. Rest is jst nice.

Weather is drizzling now and then, so we cant see Mt Kinabalu, but i bet it wiill be spectacular if no clouds. And temp was 12c!! I had blanket and sleeping bag still very cold.

This is my top camping spot.

Camping Review.

Secret Beach & Bar, Kudat.

This is one of most popular campsite in East Cost Sabah. This is a very clean and nice white sandy beach. Time we were there, the wind kind of strong, so we can see some surfers there.

2 adult 1 kids cost rm45 per night. They also have restaurant if u are hungry. One of the best location for milky way.

Nice beach, but no coverage. Thats a big minus.

Camping Review.

Dragon Pearl Beach, Tuaran.

Its a well facilitated beach have all kinds of equipments up to canoe and stuff. For 2 adults and 1 kids, the cost only rm30 per night. No designated tent space as long doesnt bother other campers.

Good telco coverage. Definitely will return.

Hotel Review.

Tyng Garden Hotel, Sandakan.

Its under the Tang Dynasty group hotel. So the room is very big. Location also very strategic, middle of labuk and kim fung area. Just infront of IJM. So its easy. Also have petrol station infront. And 99 speedmart.

Price for family room inly rm110-120/night. Very cpsy just the building is abit old and need renovation. Parking also very easy.

If travel family, this is nice spot.

Amanson Signature Hotel, Sandakan.

Its a budget hotel. About rm80-90/night. Located at the back of Kim Fung town, quite scary haha..

Room a bit small so not going to return unless teavel alone.

Hotel Review.

Wings Hotel, Semporna.

Its a budget hotel, around rm90/night. Its a cozy and have good facilities. I like it here because its just in front of Bataras supermarket and Mr DIY. Laundry also very close. We stayed here 4 nights. Very nice experience.

We can cook at the verandah, they have Coway Filter and when u short of i gredients, just walk 2 mins to Bataras. They open at 8am. Quite early.

Definitely will be my usual spot. But ill take the King room.

Hotel Review.

Sutera @ Mantanani.

No need introduction. The place is a muat go.

Its an hour boat ride from the sutera jetty at Kuota Belud. Weather a bit choppy and strong winds. We supposed to stay 2 nights but cut it short cos of the wind too strong. Unsuitable for snorkeling and stuff. But the island is very nice.

We will return when the weather is better.

Hotel Review.

Sutera Sanctuary, Poring HotSpring, Ranau

I have been looking forward for this stay. I have no expectation because no idea how the place is.

Its located next of the entrance of Poring Hotsprincs. You have to look around for Sutera signboards.

As expected the room is cosy. But the place is really a sanctuary. They have all kinds of activities and stuff to do here. You need at least 2 days to enjoy all.

Tomorrow we will hike to Langanan Waterfall and Kopingit Waterfall. Then we will enjoy the hotsprings then checkout to Kinabalu Park.

Definitely will return again.

Food Review #89.

Mee Pangsit, Sembulan, KK.

Its a Wantan Noodle joint. I bypass this shop many times during fasting month but today i decided to give it a try. They have very simple menu,

Mee Pangsit Ayam
Mee Pangsit Daging
Bakso
Nasi Ayam Katok

I ordered Mee Pangsit Daging with extra Wantan. The noodles looks like chinese muslim mee tarik, wide and rubbery shape. The soup also very aromatic and flavorful. Meatballs are great. Overall its very nice. And did i mention very cheap? Its okly rm6-7 per bowl.

Verdict? Definitely will be my favorite joint. In the evening will have more hawkers around dor the night market next to the restaurant.

Food Review #88

De BBT SMASH BURGER, Keningau.

Its located in front of my hotel, Queen Hotel. Its a hipster joint, so my expectation is overprice menu and average taste, so i give my nenefit of doubt.

So the price is expensive. And they got my order wrong. Service is slow. And the fries, i dont know what it is, its just spoiled it. The normal fries is much better. I luckily ask them to separate the burger gravy. Its taste just different, extra damn spicy like sambal. U dont eat that with burger.

Verdict? Haha... u know the answer.

Food Review #87

Home Cuisine, Tambunan

This is a local dish restaurant run by mom and daughter. While waiting, I can smell the dish they cooking and made me even starving and my belly crying to be fed.

Place not on google, but its next to Sungai Pegalan. Very nice ambiance and nice profesional setup. Menu also from hard board and table is custome.

I ordered Nasi Goreng Katok and the serving is huge and generous. Taste?

I might be biased cos i like the place. Haha.. but im a man of principal. But the taste is above average. I will return cos not easy to find a decent eatery in Tambunan. And the portion definitely major plus point.

Keningau Night Market.

Great place if you want to blend in local cuisine and hang out. The have wet market selling daily needs also lots and i mean lots of foods. And very cheap!

Surrounding of the market also have lots of places to eat so you definitely wont be hungry.

Hotel Review.

Perkasa Hotel, Keningau.

One of the oldest hotel chain in Sabah. The price is very cheap, RM90/night on Agoda.

Mostly VIP will choose here or Juta Hotel. The room is cozy and location is near town, less than 1km and its the highest hill in Keningau Town, so u can see the whole city from the hotel.

Not bad but its a bit too old.

Food Review #86.

Ayami Restaurant, Keningau.

Been awhile.

Looks like their speciality is fried chicken. Review in FB not bad so decided to give it a try since im in the area. U cant find in googlemap, so thr landmark is Mr DIY Keningau.

Menu as in the picture. Ordered Ayami Chicken Rice since it recommended by the counter girl.

Rice is bit different. Looks like beras kampung. Soup is pink. Haha..

Verdict? Taste is OK. Just avarage nothing special but its still edible. Haha..
