The Orion Nebula, also known as M42, it being part of the famous Messier Catalogue of deep-sky objects complied by French comet hunter Charles Messi (Todd, 2024). It resides within our Milky Way galaxy and is relatively close to Earth. Located approximately 1,344 light-years away from Earth, is estimated to be relatively young in astronomical terms, with an age of around 2 million years(cited from NASA).

Did you know that the moon is the Earth’s Tidal Dance? The moon’s gravitational pull not only causes tides on Earth but also influences the planet’s rotation. Over time, this gravitational interaction has led to Earth’s rotation slowing down, while the moon is gradually moving away from us at a rate of about 1.5 inches per year (Choi & Dobrijevic, 2023)

📢 *Event Postponement Announcement: Astro Picnic 2024*

We regret to inform you of the postponement of the Putrajaya Wetland Astronomy Picnic, originally scheduled for *14 December 2024*.

This decision comes after careful consultation with the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET), which has indicated the likelihood of a second wave of heavy rain and thunderstorms from the 8th until the 14th of December 2024. These weather conditions, combined with recent flooding across several areas in Malaysia, could significantly impact safety, accessibility, and the overall experience of the event.

We stand in solidarity with all those affected by the devastating floods and send our deepest sympathies to the victims and their families. The safety and well-being of our participants remain our top priority, and we hope this decision allows time for healing and recovery for those impacted.

We are actively working with our partners to set a new date and will share updates no later than *14 December 2024*.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and greatly appreciate your understanding and support. Thank you for your patience as we navigate these challenging circumstances. We look forward to welcoming you to the rescheduled event for an unforgettable astronomy experience. 🌌
