Clear waters, sun-drenched beaches and un-spoilt tranquility are the main attraction of Sabah’s islands. Underwater and its marine life is absolutely stunning. Surrounded by one of the richest underwater ecosystems in the world along three of its borders, Sabah is one of the premier destinations to view marine life.

There are many rare and endangered sea creatures such as the green and hawksbill turtles, napoleon wrasse, giant clams as well as countless species of sharks and schools of thousands of barracuda and jacks. Sabah is not only known for its reef’s larger inhabitants but and also as a ‘muck diving’ paradise with such rarities as the mimic octopus, flamboyant cuttlefish, mandarinfish, harlequin ghost pipefish, seahorses, ribbon eels, plus many types of weird and wonderful frogfish and nudibranches.

沙巴并不是岛屿，而是马来西亚位处于婆罗洲上的一个行政区，但是因为三面环海，所以拥有丰沛的海洋资源，到处都是令人流连忘返的湛蓝海水。此外，沙巴没有地震、台风等天然灾害的侵袭，广达72,500平方公里的土地上，因丰沛的水气和肥沃的土壤而处处都是绿茵和雨林，还有一座东南亚最高峰神山（Kinabalu）和珍贵的保育动物红毛猩猩。总合这些得天独厚的自然条件之后，身为马来西亚第2大州的沙巴，成为马来西亚最受游客喜爱的定点度假胜地之一。 因为幅员广阔，沙巴的度假方式比起马来西亚其他地方显得更为气派，在这里可以找到许多全方位的5星级度假旅馆，18洞的高尔夫球场、典雅清新的SPA中心、活力四射的水上活动中心、洁白柔软的沙滩等全都放入度假旅馆里。如果想要体验浮潜、香蕉船、风帆、水上摩托车、海上独木舟、海边骑马等各种活动，这里也通通都有。简单地说，沙巴走的是高档悠闲的度假方式，一个度假旅馆可包下所有的服务，让房客入住之后，就懒得离开饭店了。目前，市场上如山富国际旅行社和飞龙旅行社推出的沙巴自由行产品，都是以这样的饭店为诉求，如佳蓝汶莱（Nexus Resort Karambunai）、麦哲伦（Magellan Sutera）、香格里拉──莎莉雅（Shangrila Rasa Ria）和太平洋丝绸港湾（Pacific Sutera）等。 其实，沙巴最迷人的度假特色，还是周遭丰富缤纷的海底生态资源，马来西亚7座海洋公园，就有4个位在沙巴沿海区域，包括亚庇西北165海里外的拉央拉央岛（Layang- Layang）、沙巴东南处的马宝岛（Mabul）和卡巴赖岛（Kapalai）、沙巴和汶莱湾岸外以北的纳闽（Labuan），以及亚庇海外由5座小岛构成的东姑阿都拉曼国家公园（Tunku Abdul rahman Park Islands）。这些美丽的热带珊瑚礁岛屿四周，由温暖且微生物含量丰沛的南中国海和苏拉威西海（Sulawesi）包围，可观赏深达600公尺的海洋世界，甚或1,000公尺以下，例如拉央拉央岛一带海域，能见度达20→50公尺的深。这里要提醒潜水爱好人士，最受世界潜水者喜爱的西巴丹岛（Sipadan），2005年1月，为了保护这里的海洋生态资源，马来西亚政府宣布封岛，岛上不再提供住宿，不过，钟情西巴丹岛的潜水玩家还是可以转移基地到附近的卡巴赖岛，从卡巴赖岛出发到西巴丹岛玩潜水，并当天来回。
