Island Hospital celebrated a significant milestone as Dr. Sotheenathan Krishinan, a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, successfully performed a highly complex heart and vascular operation known as the Bentall procedure.

The Bentall procedure is a specialised surgery designed to replace the aortic valve and a portion of the aorta, the body’s largest blood vessel responsible for carrying oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the rest of the body. This intricate procedure is often performed to address an aortic aneurysm—a dangerous bulge in the aorta that, if untreated, can lead to life-threatening complications such as rupture or severe bleeding.

This achievement reflects the excellence and dedication of Island Hospital's surgical team. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire medical team who collaborated seamlessly to ensure the success of this challenging case. The early morning of 15 December, Sunday was filled with energy and excitement as a dedicated team of volunteers from Island Hospital participated in the Penang Bridge International Marathon. This year, the event was held on the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, Penang's second iconic bridge.

Island Hospital took pride in being the Official Hospital Partner for this prestigious event. A team of 52 skilled medical personnel was stationed at the event’s medical base, prepared to provide prompt assistance for any medical emergencies.

Additionally, Island Hospital staff were stationed at two water stations—Station 2 and Station 19—serving much-needed hydration to an incredible 22,000 runners. Their contribution ensured that participants stayed refreshed and motivated throughout the race.

This remarkable involvement in such an internationally renowned and iconic event underscores Island Hospital's role as a proud, homegrown healthcare institution supporting the Penang community and beyond.
