1976 – 2011 - 35 YEARS OF SAFARI EXCELLENCE

THE ORIGINAL SAFARI COMPANY

We are proud to announce that 2011 marks the 35th anniversary of Ongariwanda Hunting Safaris. Way back in 1976, a young game farmer called Johann Janse Van Rensburg initiated a far-reaching and visionary conservation and hunting concept which was to pave the way for modern conservation, trophy hunting and tourism. His drea

m was to share his passion for this unique wilderness and to secure its future by ensuring that the local population would benefit by conserving the wildlife and infinitely varied habitat of the Ongariwandan lands. Thirty five years on at Ongariwanda Hunting Safaris, we are still walking. We are still passionate about sharing the thrill of tracking leopard on foot through the early morning mists, the delight in learning something new on every walk or game drive and the chance to meet local people and share experiences about life on the hunting safari. In an area where people live side by side with wildlife there will always be conflict. As the original hunting-safari company in the Ongariwandan country we take our responsibilities very seriously. We pride ourselves on the level of service that we offer to our guests. Attention to detail is essential throughout our organization starting with the reservations team and finishing with the staff who look after you whilst you are out on your safari. You can read more about our individual members of staff and get to know some of them before your visit. Ongariwanda Hunting Safaris is widely regarded as one of the foremost Hunting operators in Namibia. If there are any questions that this site is unable to answer, then please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to offer further advice.

Waiting for the first rains. Pray with us and sing psalms to the glory of our God with the zither; who covers the sky with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who causes grass to sprout on the mountains.

Namibia needs HIS grace and blessings!

Damara dik-dik

One of Africa's smallest antelopes and a protected species in Namibia. Although they are regularly seen alone, they mate for long periods, probably for life. They are very territorial and should competition be too stiff, will move on to a new territory.

Among the characteristics of the Damara dik-dik, is their proboscis nose, that can be moved in any direction to scent for specific food sources. Their hooves have well-developed black rubbery pads that act as a shock absorbers when their feet strike the hard ground, a feature of the terrain they habit, mainly dense woodland and thick scrub.

The shoulder height is an average of 40cm, with a weight of 5kg. Only the males carry the spike-like horns.
