From 16 March South Africa Airways (SAA) is resuming flights to Malawi, operating a triangular schedule from Johannesburg to Blantyre and to Lilongwe and back to Johannesburg.

The route from Blantyre to Johannesburg is via Lilongwe, while the route from Johannesburg to Lilongwe is via Blantyre.

The Malawi flight schedule will operate on Thursdays and Saturday.

De voordelen van boeken via reisorganisaties

+ Ontzorgen Bij het plannen van die droomreis komt toch altijd meer werk kijken dan gedacht. Welk land en welke plekken wil je bezoeken, welke route is het meest logisch en hoelang wil je ergens blijven? Als die puzzel gelegd is, is het vinden van de juiste accommodaties, het vervoer en het boeken van activiteiten de volgende crime. Gespecialiseerde reisorganisaties nemen dat regelwerk uit handen. Bij ons werken mensen die specialist zijn in één of meerdere bestemmingen, waardoor ze je op basis van eigen ervaringen kunnen adviseren. Ze onderhouden persoonlijk contact met je en luisteren naar hoe jij wilt reizen. Zo kun je met behulp van hun expertise je reis helemaal aanpassen aan je eigen wensen.

+ Begeleiding ter plaatse Lokale medewerkers/partners en/of een gids staan je ter plaatse bij op je reis. Er is dan ter plekke een aanspreekpunt, mocht er onverhoopt iets gebeuren. Ook is er begeleiding in de reisactiviteiten. Je wordt opgehaald van de luchthaven, excursies zijn goed geregeld, je krijgt waar nodig of handig een (lokale) gids, het vervoer staat klaar: over alle logistieke zaken hoef jij je geen zorgen te maken.

+ Zekerheid De reisorganisaties zijn verantwoordelijk voor de boekingen. Dat betekent dat zij in het geval van annuleringen, stakingen, natuurrampen – noem maar op – de reis voor jou redden of het geld terugstorten voor (het deel van) de reis dat jij niet hebt kunnen maken. Zo zijn wij aangesloten bij de reisbranche-organisatie ANVR, de Stichting Garantiefonds Reisgelden (SGR) en het Calamiteitenfonds. Zo ben je altijd gedekt als er onverhoopt iets misgaat tijdens je reis of bij faillissement.

+ Repatriëring Mocht er zich een situatie voordoen waarbij de veiligheid van reizigers in een land in het geding komt (denk aan een natuurramp of oorlogssituatie), dan zorgen reisorganisaties ervoor dat je gerepatrieerd wordt. Dit geldt óók wanneer je als reiziger noodgedwongen huiswaarts moet keren omdat de reisbestemming óf je thuisland de grenzen sluit. Een van de meest recente gevallen was de uitbraak van COVID-19, waarbij de reisorganisaties hun klanten uit alle hoeken van de wereld terughaalden naar Nederland. Reizigers die hun reis zelf geregeld hadden, hadden niet altijd het geluk huiswaarts te kunnen keren.

+ Kostenplaatje is duidelijk Je komt nooit voor onvoorziene kosten te staan als je op vakantie gaat met behulp van reisorganisaties. De boekingen zijn duidelijk en de betalingen gedaan en rest er dus niets anders dan te gaan genieten van jouw droomvakantie.

MALAWI WAIVES VISA FEES

The Minister of Tourism Culture and Wildlife Dr. Michael Usi has announced to waive the VISA fees as from 1 jan 2023 for tourists from:

USA | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | Belgium | Italy | France | Poland | Netherlands | Norway | Finland | Denmark | Sweden | Australia | China | Russia

He made the announcement on Wednesday at Chongoni World Heritage Site where he presided over the disbursement of matching grants to 24 Local Enterprises around the site. The Minister was quoted to indicate 1st January as effective date for the waiver. Following the announcement, the Ministry wishes to clarify the following;

1) That the VISA fee waiver have been approved for tourists coming to Malawi from priority markets

2)To implement this approval, the Ministry is working with relevant authorities, in this matter, Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure this is done within the shortest time possible. The Ministry of Home Affairs will provide more information on the subsequent steps to be taken in compliance with the approval that we envisage to be effective by January 2023.

Vwaza Marsh Game Reserve in Malawi is the best park to spot elephants

Southwest of Nyika, Vwaza Marsh Game Reserve occupies a key watershed between Lake Malawi and Zambia’s Luangwa valley. Critical for its biodiversity, Vwaza forms part of the Malawi–Zambia Transfrontier Conservation Area and serves as the base for Malawi’s Wildlife Research Institute, which focuses on elephants. Vwaza supports northern Malawi’s largest elephant population.

Open wetlands, marsh plains, grassland, and acacia forest provide habitat for 300 bird species and abundant game, from 17 pods of hippos in Lake Kazuni to buffaloes and elephants traversing the floodplains.
It’s not the easiest park to explore in the rainy season because most parts get water-logged.

Best way to visit is by 4WD with a driver/guide during the dry season. Accommodations are basic but comfortable.

MALAWI: WHEN TO TRAVEL?

Travelers can visit Malawi the whole year through, however it is good to keep in mind the pros and cons of the different seasons. Malawi has a hot summer rainfall season from November to early April so the best time to visit is during the dry local winter months – April to late October. Winter gets chilly high up on the northern Nyika Plateau but down on the shore of Lake Malawi you can expect warm, sunny, and dry days – great beach weather! This is also when to go to Malawi for the best game viewing – much of the vegetation has thinned out and animals are concentrated at rivers and permanent waterholes.

In the local mid-summer months of January and February, temperatures can get uncomfortably hot and humid; rainfall is at its highest and some of the roads in the national parks can become impassable.

In the far north of Malawi, at an altitude of around 2,500m, Nyika is a rolling plateau dotted with stunning mountain outcrops. The Nyika National Park protects over 3,000km2 of this rich plateau, noted for the endemic herbs and heathers found in its rolling, montane grasslands.
Nyika is a refreshing haven during a hot safari and one of the most popular places to go for a horseback riding safari.
Most visitors spend a couple of nights here, and combine it with some time on Lake Malawi.
