🇵🇱 Park Narodowy Etosha, położony w północnej Namibii, jest jednym z największych i najbardziej znaczących rezerwatów przyrody w Afryce. Charakterystyczną cechą parku jest rozległe solnisko Etosha Pan, które jest na tyle duże, że można je dostrzec z kosmosu. Słonie w Etoszy są największymi przedstawicielami swojego gatunku na świecie, jednak ich kły są mniejsze z powodu niedoborów mineralnych, na które przystosowały się w warunkach pustynnych. 🐘🦁🦌

🇬🇧 Etosha National Park, located in northern Namibia, is one of the largest and most significant wildlife reserves in Africa. A distinctive feature of the park is the vast Etosha Pan, which is so large that it can be seen from space. The elephants in Etosha are among the largest representatives of their species in the world, yet they have smaller tusks due to mineral deficiencies as they adapted to the desert conditions. 🐘🦁🦌

🇵🇱 Dzień pierwszy w Parku Narodowym Etosha - popołudniowa przejażdżka po parku, który będziemy eksplorować przez kolejne dwa dni. Tutejsza fauna jest oszałamiająca, a spotkanie matki oryksa z młodym to rzadki widok, który dzisiaj mieliśmy szczęście obserwować. Antylopy oryks stosują specyficzne zachowania znane jako "strategia ukrywania" - chowają swoje młode w krzakach, podczas gdy dorosłe osobniki wychodzą na żer. Inne ssaki zwykle chronią swoje młode, trzymając je blisko w stadzie. Co za niezwykłe doświadczenie! 🌿🦌

🇬🇧 Day one in Etosha National Park - an afternoon drive through the park, which we will be exploring for the next two days. The local fauna is breathtaking, and today we were lucky enough to witness a rare sight: a mother oryx with her young. Oryx antelopes exhibit specific behaviors known as "hiders" - they hide their young in the bushes while the adults go out to forage. Other mammals usually protect their young by keeping them close within the herd. What an extraordinary experience! 🌿🦌

Otoczony malowniczymi górami Erongo, każdy zakątek tego miejsca jest obrazem wartym pędzla mistrza. 🏞️ Odkryłem tu starożytne malowidła skalne, które opowiadają historie sprzed tysięcy lat. Magia i spokój tego miejsca sprawiają, że czas zdaje się tu płynąć inaczej.

🇵🇱🌍🏜️ Dziś zostawiamy za sobą leniwie spędzany czas przy basenie i o świcie wyruszamy na prawdziwą przygodę w serce Namibii! Naszym celem jest Sossusvlei, spektakularne miejsce, gdzie pustynne krajobrazy osiągają swój artystyczny zenit.

Sossusvlei jest znane z majestatycznych, czerwonych wydm, które są jednymi z najwyższych na świecie. Szczególnie Big Daddy, król wśród wydm, góruje nad okolicą swoimi imponującymi 325 metrami. Wdrapanie się na jego szczyt to wyzwanie, ale widoki na rozciągający się z góry krajobraz są tego warte!

Nieopodal znajduje się Deadvlei, miejsce niemalże surrealistyczne. To pradawny gliniany basen z białym, spękanym dnem, na którym stoją szkielety drzew sprzed 900 lat. Te martwe akacje, które nie uległy rozkładowi z powodu suchości klimatu, tworzą niesamowity kontrast z jaskrawo czerwonymi wydmami w tle.

Podczas naszej wyprawy nie możemy pominąć wizyty w Sesriem Canyon, wyżłobionym przez rzekę Tsauchab. Ten głęboki na 30 metrów kanion oferuje odmienny rodzaj piękna – z jego skalistych ścian bije surowa, nieoszlifowana siła natury. Spacer dnem kanionu to jak podróż w czasie, w której na każdym kroku można natknąć się na ukryte skarby natury.

🇬🇧🌍🏜️ At the dawn, today, we're leaving the poolside lounging behind for a real adventure in the heart of Namibia! Our destination is Sossusvlei, a spectacular spot where desert landscapes reach their artistic peak.

Sossusvlei is famed for its majestic, red sand dunes, some of the highest in the world. Among them is Big Daddy, the king of dunes, towering over the area at an impressive 325 meters. Climbing to its summit is a challenge, but the panoramic views from the top are absolutely worth it!

Not far from there lies Deadvlei, an almost surreal place. It's an ancient clay pan with a cracked white bed, dotted with the skeletons of trees that died around 900 years ago. These dead acacias, preserved by the arid climate, create a haunting, almost spiritual contrast against the vivid red dunes in the background.

During our expedition, we can't miss a visit to Sesriem Canyon, carved by the Tsauchab river. This 30-meter deep canyon offers a different kind of beauty—with its rugged walls emanating the raw, unpolished force of nature. Walking along the canyon floor is like traveling back in time, full of discoveries and hidden treasures.

We're set for days filled with exploration in one of the most extraordinary places on Earth. Follow our steps as we delve into the mysteries and beauty of the Namib Sand Sea! 🌅

🇵🇱 Dojechaliśmy do naszego miejsca noclegowego, Namib Desert Lodge, położonego u stóp skamieniałych wydm. To tu, w sercu pustyni Namib, mogliśmy podziwiać oryksy, które regularnie podchodziły do lokalnego wodopoju. Otoczenie z czerwonych piasków i skalistych formacji zapewniało nie tylko spektakularne widoki, ale też różnorodne aktywności, od wycieczek po pustyni po safari. Szczególnie niezapomniane było doświadczenie sundowner drive, podczas którego, w czasie zachodu słońca, mieliśmy okazję podziwiać zmieniające się kolory nieba i rozległe, spokojne krajobrazy pustyni.

🇬🇧 We arrived at our accommodation, Namib Desert Lodge, located at the base of petrified dunes. Here, in the heart of the Namib Desert, we could watch oryxes regularly approaching the local watering hole. Surrounded by red sands and rocky formations, the setting not only offered spectacular views but also a variety of activities, from desert walks to safaris. The sundowner drive was particularly unforgettable. During sunset, we had the opportunity to admire the changing colors of the sky and the expansive, tranquil desert landscapes.

🇵🇱 Wyruszamy w dalszą podróż przez Namibię. Nasza trasa, która zaprowadzi nas do wyjątkowego miejsca noclegowego położonego u stóp skamieniałych wydm, prowadzi przez Spreetshoogte, malowniczą przełęcz łączącą pustynię Namib z wyżyną Khomas. Dziś mamy do pokonania zaledwie 250 km, wyjeżdżając ze stolicy kraju, Windhoek. Jednak dynamicznie zmieniający się krajobraz za szybą naszych komfortowych samochód 4x4 daje wrażenie, jakbyśmy przemierzali różne światy.

🇬🇧 We're setting off on another leg of our journey through Namibia. Our route will take us to a unique lodging at the foot of petrified dunes, passing through Spreetshoogte, a picturesque pass that connects the Namib Desert with the Khomas Highlands. Today, we have just 250 km to cover, starting from the capital, Windhoek. However, the rapidly changing landscapes outside our comfortable pickups make it feel as though we are traversing different worlds.

🇵🇱🌍 Podczas naszej podróży przez Namibię, odkryliśmy tak charakterystyczny dla sawanny krajobraz zdominowany przez akację. Te wysokie i dostojne drzewa, rzucają cień na rozgrzaną ziemię, tworząc oazę spokoju w surowym klimacie. To one tworzą szkielet tego surowego świata, są domem i schronieniem dla licznych gatunków.

W rozłożystych koronach akacji odkryliśmy cud architektury – monumentalne gniazdo tkaczy społecznych. Te maleńkie, ale wyjątkowo pracowite ptaki, splatają ze sobą gałązki i trawy, tworząc gigantyczne mieszkalne struktury, które mieszczą setki indywidualnych komór, każda z nich o własnych, osobliwych wnętrzach.

Podczas gdy nasze oczy błądziły po tej fascynującej strukturze, nagle scena nabrała dramatyzmu. Żółta kobra przylądkowa, niczym zręczny złodziej w nocy, przemykała między komorami gniazda, w poszukiwaniu jaj czy młodych tkaczy. Ten piękny, ale śmiertelnie niebezpieczny gad jest zarówno oprawcą, jak i ofiarą, gdyż jego samotna wspinaczka na szczyt drzewa czyni go łatwym celem dla drapieżników.

To właśnie w tej chwili, na wysokim drzewie, na tle niekończącego się nieba, dramat życia i śmierci rozgrywał się jak na dłoni. Każde stworzenie, od najmniejszego ptaszka po wielką kobrę, toczy nieustającą walkę o przetrwanie, gdzie każdy dzień to niepewność, a każdy ruch może być ostatnim.

W tej surowej, ale przepięknej scenerii sawanny Namibii, każdy mieszkaniec, niezależnie od swojej roli, tka niezwykłą opowieść o życiu, śmierci i odrodzeniu, która nieustannie fascynuje i przeraża. 🐍🌳🐦

🇬🇧🌍 Traveling through the majestic savannas of Namibia, we were enveloped by landscapes marked by iconic camel thorn trees, whose towering presence and wide-reaching branches dominate the skyline. These trees are not just a sight to behold but a crucial part of the ecosystem, providing shade and support in the arid expanse. Among their branches, we discovered a marvel of avian architecture – a massive nest of the social weavers.

These industrious little birds create enormous communal nests, some large enough to house hundreds of weavers, each with its own chamber within the complex structure. Constructed from twigs and grass, these nests are a testament to nature's ingenuity and teamwork.

As we admired this spectacle, the plot thickened with the appearance of a yellow Cape cobra, weaving its way through the nest chambers in search of its next meal. These snakes are a significant threat to the weavers, preying on the chicks and eggs.

The cobra's climb up the tree trunk to raid the nest was a daring act of survival, exposing it to numerous threats. Alone and focused, the snake became an easy target for other predators in the area. This precarious journey up the camel thorn tree highlighted the relentless risks and challenges faced by each creature in their quest for survival in the rugged savanna.

This unforgettable encounter highlighted the intricate balance of survival in the wild, where every creature plays a role in the harsh yet beautiful savanna landscape. 🐍🌳🐦

In Etosha National Park, we observe fascinating aspects of elephant family life 🐘.

In the picture, we see a mother with her young one. The gestation period for elephants is an impressive 22 months (!), making it one of the longest among land mammals. Weaning occurs approximately a year after birth. You can easily determine if the calf is still nursing by observing whether its height allows it to fit under the mother's belly.

An interesting fact is the positioning of an elephant's mammary glands, not between the hind legs like most mammals, but under the front legs. This unique anatomical adaptation influences the care of offspring and constitutes a distinctive element in the biology of these magnificent animals.

W Parku Narodowym Etosha obserwujemy fascynujące aspekty życia rodzinnego słoni 🐘.
