Job Opportunity: Bookkeeper to Trial Balance

About Travel Uncharted: We specialize in 4×4 tours as well as 4×4 conversions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Payroll – Process monthly payroll accurately, ensuring timely payments and compliance with statutory requirements.
• Cash Books – Maintain and update cash books for all bank accounts.
• Support and assist where needed with processing of accounts payable and receivable.
• Reconciliations – Perform regular reconciliations of bank accounts, oversee and control petty cash, and supplier/customer accounts.
• VAT Submissions – Prepare and submit VAT returns in accordance with local tax regulations, ensuring accuracy and timely compliance.
• Journals – Prepare and post journal entries for month-end and year-end close, including accruals, adjustments, and corrections.
• Trial Balance – Prepare and maintain the general ledger up to trial balance.
• Reporting – Assist with the preparation of internal financial reports and monthly management accounts.
• Provide relevant data as needed, including monitoring of cash flow and supporting budgeting activities.
• Must be able to draw up annual budgets and monthly comparison to actuals.
• Compliance & Filing – Ensure financial documentation is filed correctly and complies with company policies and regulatory standards.
• Team Support – Collaborate with the wider team to support operations and provide
financial and administrative tasks and/or input where needed.
• Liaise with external accountants when required.
• Training & Mentorship – Provide guidance and support to junior staff or colleagues on financial processes and best practices, fostering skills development within the team.
Skills & Attributes:
• Proven experience as a bookkeeper.
• Experience within the travel, tourism, or service industry is considered an added benefit.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and processes up to trial balance.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Xero, Sage Cloud, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent time management and organisational skills.
• A dynamic, hands-on attitude and willingness to work collaboratively.
• Strong communication skills – able to liaise confidently with colleagues and external stakeholders.
• Reliable, trustworthy, and able to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to manage tasks independently and meet deadlines.
• Experience in people management or cross-department coordination is a plus.
