Perseid meteor shower - Spitzkoppe, Namibia.
10th and 11th August 2016.
This is a composite of meteors that fell, or in our case (Namibia), rose up from the horizon in the north. An awesome experience. I spent 2.5 hours watching them on the first night but couldnt stay awake on the second night. I just let my camera run. The foreground is illuminated by the moon, taken about 1 hour before the moon set.
Camera gear: Nikon D810, Nikkor 14-24mm f2.8. tripod and remote shutter release.
Settings: Sky: 14mm, ISO 3200, 28sec. Foreground: 20 sec


Several people have asked why my meteors are predominantly green in colour, apparently as the meteor passes through our atmosphere it burns up, (is vaporised) as it is vaporised it releases atoms from the rock, in this case Nickel makes the green colour. 😀
