The whole sequence of the giraffe hunt… first they pick up the smell of the giraffe. The wind was in their favour and although the giraffe looked their way, he had no inkling that he was being stalked. Then the hunt was on, right through the dense bush, right in front of us. The lioness didn’t get assistance of the other two, so the giraffe got a lucky escape… this time

“Raw power unleashed: a Lion’s savage predation”

Spotting desert lions is already a rare occurrence these days, but watching them hunting a giraffe (and almost succeeding) is something else.

We were extremely lucky to witness and experience the three desert lions in the Hoanib River on all 3 days that we were camping in the area. Lots of beautiful sightings and photos with this giraffe hunt as an absolute highlight
