By far the most common question I get asked about my photography is: "How do I take my photos of Sossusvlei and Deadvlei at night?". The answer is simple, I leave my camera out all night and pick it up in the morning. I do not always obtain the results I want, and 3 times I have had severe camera damage from dust and moisture. :-) At times I leave a light with the camera to light up the foreground.
The two images below are shot at the same spot, on the same night, with the same camera, using exactly the same settings. The top image looks like day time which is caused by the light from a 50% moon cover, the shutter is open for 28 seconds which lets in so much light, it looks like daytime even though you can see the stars. Its called "Low-light Photography" and you definitely need a tripod, extra battery pack, and lots of memory card space. 😉👍

Deadvlei, Namibia 🇳🇦
This is what a real Milkyway looks like at night stretched across the night skies. Love Namibia for its dark sky's. Composite image.
Like most dark milkyway images, the foreground often looks all black, so in this case I added the foreground taken by my camera just before sunrise where you can clearly see Deadvlei... all of it.

8:15pm Twilight
I leave my cameras out all night on Deadvlei. In the past 18months I started adjusting my camera setting specifically to target Twilight and this single shot would have to be my favorite. ❤️

A 1950 photograph of Herero tribeswomen outside a home in Windhoek, Namibia

Herero is a linguistic group closely related to Bantu speakers in southwest Africa. The Herero ethnicity as a whole and a subgroup recognized as the Mbanderu live in sections of central Namibia and Botswana; other related tribes, such the Himba, live in Namibia's Kaokoveld region and some areas of southern Angola.

This fashion was introduced to the natives by German missionaries' and German settlers' wives who first immigrated to the country in the early 1900s .
