Okwuluora's page has been boiling since morning over a comment he made about Abakaliki girls. Thousands of people across the South-East region & beyond have been all out in an attempt to debunk the statement, some even had to attach their pictures as a prove that they are more beautiful than Abakaliki girls. Others said so many demeaning things, which in my thinking suggest ignorance or inexposure on the part of those who misunderstood the post.
Okwuluora simply wanted traffic on his page and knows too well that such statements will help him publicize his event in Abakaliki, this he has achieved. Surprisingly though, people failed to understand this little trick and took the matter out of context. Okwuluora himself knows that the term "beauty" is socially, if not differently constructed concept in every society based on their doctrine of aestheticism. Hence, Okwuluora had no scientific method or data available to determine the state with most beautiful girls. He made an assumption based on mere subjective conviction, contact or association, so are those claiming that their states harbore the most beautiful girls. These are unjustifiable claims & should be trashed. Beauty & ugly are found in every society depending on how they define it for themselves.
The supremacy battle that Okwuluora's comment generated validates the assertion that the south-east remain the most polarized region in the country. It explains why the region is struggling to establish their voice in the national politics. If trevial issues such as "beauty" could trigger this level of animosity & superiority complex, how much more the liberation question. Can we ever get there?
I wish to conclude by borrowing one of my favorite aluta slogans, which says: Divided we beg, United we bargain.
Let's be guided & be blessed.
