How to Choose the Best Program for You to Study in Canada (PT 2)

Let's imagine this scenario together

Imagine that...

After you finished your WAEC exams where your major subjects were all science-related

Suddenly for your JAMB exams, you decided to apply for only art-related programs

And write art-related subjects...

How will your admission results come out?

Badly right?

Exactly! The same thing applies to studying in Canada.

And that is why you must pick a program related to your previous study or work experience.

When applying for a Master's program in Canada.

Now here is where it gets interesting

Let's imagine again...

Imagine that you finished your first degree in Animal Science 10 years ago.

But because of the lack of economic infrastructure for Animal scientists to practice in Nigeria.

You dabbled into business and made a success of it in the last 10 years.

This sort of situation gives you the opportunity to decide

To either apply for a Master in Animal Science or an MBA (everyone knows what an MBA is right...🙄)

Without getting your VISA officer suspicious of your intention

Simply because your study experience qualifies you to apply for a Master in Animal Science and

Your work experience qualifies you to apply for a Master in Business Administration

Now there is a plot twist to this principle

But you'll get to know about it in the next post.

So at this juncture, I'll tell you like the old Nigerian series will...

WATCH OUT FOR PART 3!

I hope you learned a thing or two today.

Till we gist again, I remain...

How to Choose the Best Program for You to Study in Canada

Why do you need to learn how to choose the best program for you?

Here's why...

It's funny because you might get admitted to study any program you like by any school you apply to.

But the joke gets serious when your VISA officer rejects your study visa application

Because it does not show any CAREER PROGRESS in your chosen program.

Let me use this example to make my point clear to you.

Imagine you have a degree in Banking and Finance

And you desire to do Nursing in Canada

Because of this you then decide to apply for a Diploma program.

Or you have a Masters and you decide to apply for a Bachelor's program.

Or you decide to do another Bachelor's program

Just so that you can apply for that program you are interested in

The VISA officers in Canadian immigration offices usually refuse such applications

Because they do not see a CAREER PROGRESS in your choice of program.

And they go to assume that you are merely applying to school as an excuse to migrate to Canada and that

You are not a genuine student.

So here's my advice:

It is always better to apply for a higher program when attempting to migrate to Canada.

This means if you have done a diploma before

It is best you now apply for an advanced diploma in a Canadian college.

And if you have a Bachelor's degree already

It's best you now apply for a Master or Graduate Diploma/Certificate (depending on the quality of your Bachelor's grade)

Please avoid agents who advise you to apply for a lower program

All in the name of getting admission

Because that kind of move amounts to cutting off your nose in order to deal with the boil on it.

Avoid decisions that will make your VISA officer easily reject your study Visa application.

Well all right!

I will step on the brakes right here

And continue some other time!

One question you must answer before you apply to a School in Canada. (PT 2.)

Is the University or College a Private one?

Why ask?

A few weeks ago, I applied to a school in Canada

A few things attracted me to the school

Top of the few is the fact that the school is listed on MPOWER

Is one of the very few colleges whose international students are eligible to apply for study loans.

And this was my target.

Asides from the study loan options.

This School also has one of the cheapest tuition in Ontario Canada.

In fact, here's the name of the college

ONTARIO COLLEGE OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY

Unfortunately for me, I had already submitted my application paying an application fee of $175

Before I stumbled upon a notification on the IRCC website stating that

Beginning from January 2023 all private schools will not be able to grant PGWP to international students after their schooling.

If you fall for the cheap school fee or study loans offered by some of these private schools like I did...

You will be on your way back to Nigeria soon as you are done studying.

Which I know you do not want.

So how do you avoid this mistake?

Simple...

Once you get a school that interests you...

Before you start the application process, do a little Google search that will cost you less than a minute.

Ask Google...

Is Ontario College of Management and Technology a private school?

Trust Google to answer you correctly.

This way you avoid the risk of wasting your application fee like I did.

Which was even lucky for me!

Imagine I had paid my fees and probably landed in Ontario Canada before discovering this information!...😳

That is why you are lucky to see this now.

Here is where I hand you the baton.

Till we gist again, I remain

One question you MUST answer before you apply to a School in Canada.

Does the College or University offer Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) to international students?

Why?

Except you do not plan on becoming a permanent resident in Canada after schooling.

Then you should make sure that you are getting at least 3 years of PGWP after your school

But there are some schools that do not offer international students this opportunity at all.

In fact, some schools do generally (that is offered PGWP)

but have a few programs that do not offer international students PGWP.

How do you avoid such programs as an international student?

Go through your program website thoroughly and see all their terms and conditions for international students.

To double check, send a mail to your program email contact asking...

If international students who study in your choice program are eligible for PGWP.

Now how do you avoid schools that do not offer PGWP at all?

By not applying to Private Schools AT ALL

No matter how cheap they are, if you finish a private school in Canada

As an international student, just be packing your bag and be going home

Because there is no hope for you to get a work permit after you finish.

I guess I have said enough this afternoon.

I will be dropping more questions you must answer before you apply to a Canadian University/College in the coming days.

Till we gist again, I remain,

Your Friend, Oviosa.
