at the 2020 edition of NIGERIA TOURISM AWARDS....!

Tourists expectations when visiting a particular place are related to several features of the chosen destination:
Culture, Architecture, Landscape, Good events, Creative innovations, Quality Tourguides, Foods, Shopping, Hospitable people, etc.

These features attract more people (interest) to such destination and contribute to the overall experience of their trip.

All these are peculiar to us in the Ancient City of Badagry and has made us clinched TOURISM DESTINATION IN NIGERIA - 2020 alongside some individual players (awardees) from Badagry.

future of Tourism lies on aggressive but strategic partnerships:

GAMBIA TOURISM BOARD (GTB) set for valuable alliance with the Ancient Badagry...!

In Tourism and Travel industry, collaboration is an imperative and a crucial success factor in the fields of strategic management and marketing.

The globalized context, business environment, market conditions, nature of tourism products & services, and the structure of tourism-related industries, all involve inter and intra partnerships and alliances between various organizations, entities and industries in order to offer to tourists high quality experiences and attain business and destination strategic aims.

All these were seen in the meeting between the Gambia Tourism Board delegates and the Badagry Local Government yesterday in Badagry.

The meeting which was facilitated by the Supervisor for Environment & Tourism, Hon. Apata Samson Nunayon commenced at about 12:48noon on Friday 11th December 2020 shortly after the arrival of our guests from The Gambia.

After the speeches of both the Badagry Local Government through the Supervisor for Environment & Tourism and that of the Gambia through the Director of Marketing Mr. Adama Njie they were engaged by the Supervisor for Environment & Tourism for almost 30mins while selling the rich potentials of Badagry to the Gambia delegates in the areas of:
•History
•Culture
•Nature and
•Business Opportunities.

The Gambia delegates did the same by revealing their various tourism contents and potentials of the smiling coast of Africa.

A lot were discussed especially during the interactive session where the stakeholders present at the meeting also engaged the delegates and finally, the Gambia government through the delegates assured us of their readiness to create a strong working relationship that will have positive impact on Badagry Tourism.

The meeting ended officially with presentation of the Gambia Souvenirs to the facilitator of their visit to Badagry while that of the Executive Chairman was also presented and received on his behalf.

In the same vein, the Supervisor for Environment & Tourism Hon. Apata Samson Nunayon also presented The Gambia delegates Pilgrim Certificate each on behalf of the Badagry Local Government as an official document that confirms their pilgrimage as tourists to the Ancient City of Badagry and were formally received by the Mayor of Badagry.

Shortly after the presentations, a brief tour was made to the First Storey Building in Nigeria built in 1845 by Rev. C.A, Golmer and also to a Lagos State own facility Badagry Heritage Museum and was well appreciated by the Gambia Tourism team.

They were later served with Badagry Pringles Chips (Ajogun Aladiagbon) with sliced coconut along with very chilled Radler drinks right on the floating bar at 02 Waterfront in Marina, Badagry.

After chilling at 02, we moved straight to Fams Embassy Suites where they have been expected and on the arrival at Fams, they were warmly received by the Chairman/CEO of the hotel and without wasting much time, they were taken round the facilities and also assured the delegates of their readiness too to support their working relationship with Badagry.

Exchange of Gifts was done between The Gambia delegates and the CEO of Fams Embassy who also double as the president of BACCIMA.

At Fams Embassy Suites again, the assurance of the visit of The Gambia Minister for Tourism & Culture was made and intentions of the delegates to make Fams the official lodge for their Minister while in Badagry was also made known immediately.

The delegates left Badagry around 6:00pm.

At the meeting were:
1. Hon. Akindele Taofik, the leader of the house
2. Hon. Apata Samson Nunayon, Supervisor for Environment & Tourism
3. Mrs. Oke Modinat, Head of the Department Education

The high points of the meeting includes:

•The philosophy that has taken us this far is this message “without Tourism, there’s no Gambia”
•Continuous engagement on massive marketing of our destination
•Attending various exhibitions to sell our products and services
•One of the reasons Gambia Tourism grows very well is the unity that reigns amongst us.
•We are really ready to also go into exchange of programs with Badagry whereby we will bring ours to Badagry and the Badagry people bring theirs to the Gambia.
•We will both come up with MOU to strengthen our working relationship
