Tourism education plays a major role in preparing students to gain professional and practical skills required by the Tourism industry.
Given that the tourism industry is a labor-intensive sector, it's undeniable that practical training is as important as theoretical training.
Aeroport College of Aviation and Tourism Management yesterday graduated about 300 excellent students during the 5th Convocation & Award Ceremony of the school with well equipped skills to enable them practice effectively in the industry.
The theme for the 5th edition was "TRAVEL & TOURISM AS A KEY TO NATION BUILDING; Opportunities & Challenges"
The highpoint of the event was the recognition of the contributions of some notable stakeholders in the Sector and they were duly honored with various categories of Awards.
Amongst the award recipients & categories includes;
1. AFICIONADO LEADERSHIP AWARD:
• Chief Abiodun Odusanwo, President, Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria, ITPN.
2. TRAILBLAZERS AWARD:
• Ambassador Ikechi Uko , CEO, Akwaaba African Travel Market & initiator, Naija7wonders.
• Mr. Olufemi Adefope, Chairman, Business Travel Management Ltd.
• Amb. Nneka Isaac Moses, Co-founder, Goge Africa.
3. LEADERSHIP AWARD:
• Hon. Apata Samson Nunayon, Supervisor for Tourism & Environment / CEO, Tourism Experts HUB.
• Mrs. Susan Akporaiye, President, NANTA.
• Mr. Ademola Sanya, President, Skal Club.
• Comrade Edet Mduak, Chairman, Travel Consultants Club of Nigeria.
4. ICON OF TRANSFORMATION AWARD:
• Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, Supervisor for Tourism & Environment / CEO, Epe Ancient City Tourism and APC Party Chairmanship Candidate for Epe Local Government In the forthcoming elections.
• Mrs. Tinuke Nwakohu, Managing Director, Aviator Travel & Tours Ltd.
• Mr. Chidozie Uzoezie, Founder, African Aviation Group.
• Amb. Kayode Adeshola, Executive Director, Capstone Travels & Tours Ltd.
5. AWARD OF EXCELLENCE:

As part of activities of the day, the President of ITPN ably represented by the Lagos State Coordinator of FTAN, Mr. Sunmonu advised the graduands to be active and creative and ensure they have a good brand of their own. E.g; Akwaaba African Travel Market and Goge Africa.
In the same vein, Ambassador Ikechi Uko also shared some of his experiences in the industry and encouraged them all to be focused. The students were so happy to have the mentors in attendance.
