HOLY PILGRIMAGE: LASG BEGINS SALES OF FORMS FOR INTENDING PILGRIMS TO ROME, GREECE
Following the suspension of the Holy Pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan by both the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), and the Lagos State Government in October this year, the State Government has commenced the sales of forms for the 2023/2024 Pilgrimage Exercise to the Holy Land of Rome and Greece.
The suspension of the Holy Pilgrimage exercise was as a result of the security situation in Israel that had claimed several lives.
According to the Executive Secretary of Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, LSCPWB, Mrs. Yetunde Florence Gbafe, the suspension of the pilgrimage exercise then, was in line with the State government’s decision to airlift intending pilgrims to places where their safety and security would only be guaranteed.
While explaining the rationale behind the proposed Rome and Greece pilgrimage route, Gbafe said that the two historical cities are significant in stimulating Christians’ faith as pilgrims will walk in the footsteps of the New Testament Apostles.
She said: “We do not want Christians who are desirous of a pilgrimage encounter to be denied the opportunity, hence the alternative arrangement pending when the security situation in Israel improves.”
The Board Secretary who informed that the next pilgrimage exercise is proposed for January 2024, urged intending Pilgrims to purchase their forms at the Board’s Office, Old Secretariat, Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, or Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja.
Gbafe noted that despite the temporary change from Jordan and Israel to Rome and Greece, the welfare packages and quality service that intending pilgrims enjoy from LSCPWB will not be affected in any way.
She disclosed that the State government will be responsible for the Ticket, Visa, Accommodation, Feeding, Welfare Materials, convenient and reliable Transportation within the holy land, and many more for the intending Pilgrims upon payment of the required pilgrimage fee.

HOLY PILGRIMAGE POSTPONEMENT: LASG MEETS INTENDING PILGRIMS, PLEADS FOR UNDERSTANDING
Following the postponement of the airlifting of the second batch of intending pilgrims to the Holy Land for Easter Pilgrimage, the leadership of Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, LSCPWB, has pleaded for understanding from the affected persons.
Speaking at a meeting with the intending pilgrims recently, at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, the Vice Chairman of the LSCPWB, Professor Rufus Adeyeye Oguntuase who presided over the meeting, said that the Board and the State Government regret the inconvenience that the postponement has on the affected persons.
He said though the move by the State Government and the federal government to postpone the pilgrimage exercise was for the safety of the intending pilgrims, the government was also not unaware of how the postponement could have affected the plans of most of the intending pilgrims.
According to him, “The State Government through the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board has decided to convene this meeting with you, our brothers and sisters, whose airlifting to the holy land was affected given the security issues presently ongoing in Israel.
“As a welfare-centred Board and a proactive government, we cannot but continuously provide you with relevant updates regarding this journey, knowing that all of you have already perfected plans to take part in this holy journey at this time. I know that some of you already applied for leave from your workplaces and postponed several other engagements in other to fulfill this spiritual mandate.
“It is a fact that this recent development has undoubtedly caused disappointment and uncertainty among all of us who were eagerly looking forward to embarking on this sacred journey”, he added.
While saying that it is disheartening that the intending Pilgrims are unable to proceed with the planned pilgrimage at this time, Bishop Oguntuase maintained that the safety and well-being of the pilgrims must always remain a top priority, stressing that the decision to suspend the airlifting was made in light of the current circumstances, to ensure the security and welfare of everyone.
The Cleric told the intending Pilgrims to use this period of suspension to foster their spiritual growth and deepen their connection with God by engaging in personal prayers, seeking guidance from religious leaders and participating in local religious activities to nurture their faith.
He advised them to use this period of conflict in Israel to plead for God’s divine intervention and restoration of peace to the holy land of Israel. “I want all of you our intending pilgrims to take this temporal suspension in good faith while we keep praying for the restoration of peace in Israel. Also, if we have been following news about Israel in the last few days, you will agree with me that the suspension of this trip was in the best interest of everyone”, the Bishop pleaded.
On her part, the Board Secretary of LSCPWB, Mrs. Florence Gbafe, appreciated the intending pilgrims for their understanding, patience, and unwavering devotion, saying that their commitment to the spiritual journey remains an inspiration to the leadership of LSCPWB.
She assured the intending pilgrims that the Lagos State Government is closely monitoring the situation in Israel, by keeping constant communication with relevant authorities to assess the circumstances and determine the best course of action moving forward.
Gbafe reaffirmed that the government is doing everything possible to address the situation and resume the airlifting as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.

JORDAN/JERUSALEM PILGRIMS ARRIVE SAFELY IN LAGOS
… As CAN Chairman, Others Ccommend Sanwo-Olu’s Support for Pilgrims
The over 300 Christian Pilgrims airlifted to the Kingdom of Jordan and Israel by the Lagos State Government for the pilgrimage exercise arrived in Lagos safely in the early hours of Tuesday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The arrival of the pilgrims officially ends the pilgrimage exercise for the first batch of Easter Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land of Jordan and Israel who left Lagos penultimate Saturday, 30th September, 2023.
Speaking at the Arrival Wing of the Airport in Ikeja, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Lagos State Chapter and leader of the pilgrims to the Holy Land, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, appreciated Governor Sanwo-Olu for demonstrating true leadership that made the journey possible.
He also thanked the Governor for the interest shown in the safety of the pilgrims since the Israeli-Palestinian conflict started some days ago where several persons have died.
The CAN Chairman said that the safe completion of the pilgrimage activities in Israel despite the unrest in some parts of the country, exemplifies God’s special love for the pilgrims, Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.
On his part, the Vice Chairman of Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Professor Rufus Adeyeye Oguntuase, who also alluded to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s concern over the safety of the pilgrims, said that the suspension of the airlifting of the second batch of pilgrims by the State Government was a demonstration of the premium which the present administration places on the safety of its citizens.
He expressed confidence that the prayers offered for the leadership of Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole at the Holy Land are already answered and will begin to manifest in the lives of the Executives, Legislators, Judiciary, and others in positions of authority in Nigeria.
The Board Secretary, Mrs. Florence Gbafe, was elated that all the pilgrims who took part in the pilgrimage journey returned to Nigeria without any record of casualty or abscondment.
It should be noted that following the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Holy Land, the second batch of Christian Pilgrims to Jordan and Israel earlier scheduled for airlifting today, Tuesday 10th October, 2023, has been put on hold, pending when a new date would be made public.

Israel-Palestine unrest: LASG suspends Airlifting of second batch of intending pilgrims to Israel
Due to the prevailing unrest in the land of Israel, the airlifting of some intending pilgrims from Lagos State for a holy pilgrimage in Israel, earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 10th October 2023 has been put on hold.
The Board Secretary of Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, LSCPWB, Mrs. Florence Gbafe, made this known on Monday, saying that the decision was a result of keen observation of security situations in Israel.
According to her, the LSCPWB and the national body in charge of coordinating pilgrimage activities in the country, the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, NCPC, will announce a new date for the airlifting of the second batch of the intending pilgrims in due course.
While saying that the State Christian Board regrets any inconvenience that the suspension of the airlifting of the pilgrims might cause, Gbafe stated that the intending pilgrims would be duly informed of developments about their journey to the Holy Land.
In her words: “To all on the second batch of pilgrimage to Israel, kindly note that the pilgrimage is now on hold due to the war situation in Israel. Further information will be communicated as and when due please.”
The Executive Secretary maintained that the Lagos State Government and the federal government will continue to prioritize the safety of all pilgrims to the holy land and will not expose Nigerians to any situation that will put their security at risk.
She thanked God for the safety of the first batch of pilgrims from Lagos State who had already concluded their pilgrimage activities on Sunday, 8th October 2023, revealing that the pilgrims are expected to arrive in Nigeria later today, Monday 9th October 2023.

"Embrace Spirituality, Shun Temporality" Lagos Legislator Urges Pilgrims
… Commends Pilgrims’ Conducts In Jordan
A member of Lagos State House of Assembly representing Epe Constituency II, Hon. Sylvester Ogunkelu has advocated the need for Christians to keep living Christ-like lives by obeying God, eschewing evil, and always keeping their focus on God.
Ogunkelu who is House Committee Chairman on Home Affairs, gave the advice on Tuesday at Mount Nebo during the ongoing Christian pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Jordan by pilgrims from Lagos State, including another member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Ifako Ijaiye Constituency 1, Hon. Temitope Adedeji, among others.
According to him, embracing things of the spirit will help Christians to grow spiritually, and be mindful and cautious of keeping a lasting relationship with God, unlike Moses, who couldn’t get to the Promised Land despite the huge sacrifices he made during his lifetime.
He reminded the pilgrims and all Christians to be committed to performing their civic duties to their respective States and country at large, stressing that good governance requires the government to be alive to its duties as well as the governed.
Ogunkelu said that for Christians to invoke the blessing of God and have their prayers answered unhindered, they must also follow the path of the various patriarchs and matriarchs in the Bible who inclined their hearts to obey the Lord’s commandments as well as the laws of the land.
The lawmaker acknowledged the orderliness of the people of Jordan and their receptiveness, just as he also appreciated the pilgrims from Lagos State for comporting themselves as good representatives of Nigeria and their respective families.
The Board Secretary of Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mrs. Florence Gbafe while alluding to the orderly comportment of the pilgrims, also urged them to maintain the same spirit of oneness and brotherliness as the pilgrims continue their pilgrimage to Israel, today, Wednesday, 10th October, 2023.
