I applied for a LOT of jobs, every day, every morning, for seven months until I got an entry level job in my area, stayed there and studied for a certification within my area, two years later I moved to another job, and then another, until I got to one top level position, it took me about 3 years to have a “comfortable” level, I think the key is getting Canadian certifications and patience, I know it’s hard, frustrating and scary, but you are here now, just move forward, IT WILL GET BETTER,

One thing I always recommend, come by yourself the first year, don't bring your family, that way you only need to rent a room, you can shift cities without much concern, you don't have the pressure and stress of your children trying to adapt on top of your stress finding a job. Come by yourself, find a job and THEN bring your family, the visa is valid 12 months and you don't have to come all at once.

Though there are many provinces in Canada, Saskatchewan is a great place to work, with a vibrant art and culture environment along with being the birthplace of Medicare, as well as free healthcare services. In case you are looking to improve your Saskatchewan PNP scores.

*You can secure a job for yourself in Saskatchewan by looking at their updated list of eligible occupations. In case you secure a job offer from an employer of Saskatchewan you can come here based on a work permit.

*You can even come and study at the College of Saskatchewan. You can get your graduate degree there. More points can be granted in case you do your Masters or Ph. D for instance.

*You can even improve your English language test scores by retaking the exam which analyzes and scores separate bands of Reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The higher your Canadian Language Benchmark score or CLB score the higher your points will be.

*If you are married you can even apply along with your spouse as in case if they have a degree or have taken a language proficiency test or work experience from Canada can help you in improving your Saskatchewan PNP score.

*Even if you have a sibling by blood or adopted, marriage partners who are either citizens or permanent residents can also gain points with the PNP score of Saskatchewan.

Keep three things in mind:

Canadian PR status
As a Canadian PR, you are allowed to live, work, study, do business, get social benefits, health coverage, etc. There’s no restriction and job market is open to you as well (except for highly sensitive posts and voting rights). However, it comes with certain restrictions too. As long as you stay in Canada for 2 years (730 days) in every 5-year (1825 days) period, you will be able to keep your Canadian PR status. You can keep your current citizenship and remain in Canada while maintaining your PR status forever, without worrying about 5-year renewal status. Everytime you re-enter Canada, your PR eligibility days are checked in that 5-year bracket mentioned in your PR card.

2. Canadian PR Card

PR Card is only required for travelling overseas - mainly upon re-entering into Canada on any commercial vehicle (such as Plane, Ship, Bus, etc). If you have your own plane, ship, bus, etc, for personal use, you don’t really need PR card as you can use Confirmation of Permanent Residency (COPR) document. Your PR status can remain legal if you stay within Canada without ever applying for PR card. You can even live in Canada on an expired PR card, as long as you have valid COPR.

3. Canadian Citizenship

Only PR status holders can apply for Citizenship, therefore your PR status (not PR card) has to be valid. For Citizenship eligibility, you have to be physically present in Canada for 1095 days (3 years) within the last 5 years. You can refer to Canadian Immigration website for detailed information.

Hell yess! I cannot emphasize enough. Unless you dont mind working in a factory or a warehouse on minimum wage.

Do your research, send your academic documents to ICAS/WES for evaluation, start applying to colleges. I would recommend upgrading in the same field that you received your education in the past. If you want to switch, look for full time courses that provide co-op (paid or unpaid placement). First and best step is to contact a career counselor in your local college, book an appointment and go from there.

Dont forget to search for newcomer centers in your city and collect the best info and resources from there.

Nigeria is not ‘exempted’ from the DV Lottery. Like several other countries, it already sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the US in the most recent five years, and so did not qualify this year.

Remember that the D in “DV” stands for ‘diversity.’ The program is specifically aimed at bringing to the US people of nationalities that only rarely qualify under the usual immigration categories. As soon as the total Nigerian immigrants in the prior five years is below 50,000, Nigerians will be able to use it again.

Good to know you’ve started planning and I’d suggest it’s time for ex*****on now. A lot of people are moving here lately. Including people from US who were on work visa.

The job market is completely independent of your skills here. I’ve seen Doctors from other countries come and start their restaurant as well as teachers coming in and joining NGOs.

What I’d suggest you is to rephrase the question. Out of the available jobs in IT, what kind of job am I capable enough of doing and how can I start working on it from now in order to gain enough exposure, before applying for jobs?

For example, You’ll meet a 100 people everyday who’ll say I can work on AI or I’m interested in learning AI (since AI is a boom in the market) but the question is, how many people do you actually encounter that say, I’ve worked on AI, this is what I’ve achieved so far- how can I learn and add more to it?

That’s the approach that’s going to get you in a position to land a job soon.

About certifications:

Yes, certifications have a lot of value here. In fact, if you’re applying for a role like Project Manager, PMP is mandatory.

Not only that, online certifications from Coursera or Udemy are also very valued in the Canadian job market.

Apart from your question, I’d like to add 2 more things. Build meaningful connections. It is more important who you know than what you know AND gain some volunteer experience. It’s valued highly in the Canadian job market.

IRCC does not rate education programs. This is what IRCC looks at when you apply for a study permit.

That you have no criminal record or immigration violations.

That you have a Letter of Acceptance from a Canadian designated learning institute.

That you have proof of funds for your first year's tuition plus $10,000 CAD living expenses.

That your Canadian education will improve your employment opportunities in your home country.

That the program of study you have enrolled in makes sense with any post secondary education you already have.

That you have family and community ties showing you will go home when your studies are complete.

If you have received your Confirmation of Permanent Residence letter and completed your permanent residence landing process at a Canadian port of entry, you are a permanent resident. You are no longer required to have a study permit to stay in Canada. You can quit your study program.

Do not quit your study program until you have completed the PR landing process. Even if you have an approval letter you are not a Canadian PR until you have completed the PR landing process. That is the final step in the PR application process.

It depends on what you mean by “a work visa”. The UK has several visa that could reasonably be described as such.

You do not need a job offer to apply for the Graduate visa, the Entrepreneur visa, the Innovator visa, or the Youth Mobility Scheme. You do - in absolutely all cases - need a job offer to apply for the Skilled Worker visa or the Health and Care Worker visa.

All of these visas have specific purposes. There is no general visa you can get if you just fancy moving to the UK but don’t feel like looking for a job yet. Nor should there be.

Getting a job offer from outside the UK, if you have eligible skills and experience, is a simply enough process in any case.
