AGIYA TREE MONUMENT | THE FALLEN AGIA TREE MONUMENT.

Under the fallen Agia tree located in the middle of Obada market, Christianity was first preached in Nigeria on September 24, 1842 by Rev Thomas Birch Freeman (Methodist) and the First Christmas service in Nigeria was jointly anchored by himself and Rev Henry Townsend (Anglican).

The tree fell on the 20th June, 1959 and replaced with a monument.

NIGERIA FIRST STOREY BUILDING | BADAGRY

On Friday, April 6, 2022, I visited this historical site and it was really amazing.

As a child living in Badagry, Lagos state, I grew up hearing a lot about Nigeria's first storey building, erected by Reverend Henry Townsend of the Church Missionary Society (CMS) in 1845.

I asked a lot from the Guild even before he started showing me around 😌😂, even he was like you this man you done read all about this place finish 😂😂😂 but I draft some fun fact about this special place and which are

- The house was built in 1845.
- Still contains every iron corrugated sheets ever used on the building.
- Doubles as a small museum paying homage to Anglican missionaries and the first teacher in Nigeria - - Mr Claudius Philips (1845–1868).
- It also contains Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther’s Yoruba bible and the first English Bible brought to Nigeria by CMS missionaries.
- Houses the first safe in the country which currently contains cowries, the first money spent by our forefather and the first notes used by Nigerians in 1973.
- There are signs for where the first Anglican church, school, boarding house and kitchen used to stand before they all collapsed. The guide said primary one pupils were at least 45 years old. The oldest pupils were 58 years old. They spent twelve years in only primary school. There were no secondary schools then.
- At that time, there was no fence surrounding the compound. The fence was built after slavery was abolished in Nigeria in the 1880s. The compound also contains the Bishop Crowther Bible College.
- Despite being a national historic site, this property is run and managed by the Anglican church. Everyone on the property, including my tour guide, are all members of the church.

UNILORIN ZOO : A VISIT TO THE UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN

KWARA State is blessed with a lot of tourist attraction areas, of which the University Of Ilorin Zoological Garden is one of them.

The Zoo is located just before the University Entrance Gate, at Along University Road, Tanke Oke-odo, Ilorin, Kwara State.

A major attraction to the zoo which has continued to draw visitors to the zoo is the 150meters long and 45meters high suspended canopy walkway.

The forest vegetation and presence of a stream which flows through the zoo creates a serene and very natural environment that makes the zoo so unique.
