RwandAir has announced that it is to resume flights to the European cities of London and Brussels from its hub in Kigali, Rwanda. This service will begin on October 3rd as the airline works towards rebuilding its passenger network. One notable switch from prior service is that the airline will operate service to London Heathrow rather than London Gatwick.

This is a welcome development as Rwandair presents another budget-friendly alternative to London and Brussels via their Kigali hub.

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism & Aviation has announced the destination will begin Phase 1 of the Tourism Readiness and Recovery Plan on Monday, June 15, which welcomes international boaters, yachters and private aviation back to Bahamian shores, across all The Islands Of The Bahamas.

During Phase 1, hotels will also reopen for staff to return to work and put in place all the measures required to ensure they are ready to welcome guests at the onset of Phase 2.

Commercial airlines will also be allowed to bring in Bahamian citizens, legal residents, homeowners qualifying for economic permanent residency, or the immediate family members or significant others of any of these groups. It is anticipated that during this period of time there will be a reduced flight schedule as airlines begin adding The Bahamas to their schedules once again.

Delta Air Lines is establishing the airline’s first Global Cleanliness division – a new department within the Customer Experience organization dedicated to innovating and evolving our already-high cleanliness standards.

In the three months since the global pandemic dramatically impacted the world, teams across Delta quickly and effectively established a new standard of cleanliness for Delta, and the aviation industry. This latest move is a unique way for the global carrier to continue bringing laser focus to cleanliness efforts as part of the layers of protection offered to customers.

The Global Cleanliness organization will further develop and execute Delta’s cleanliness standards, methods and quality management to ensure a consistently safe and sanitized experience across our facilities and aircraft for employees and customers.

Paris city authorities said that French capital’s most iconic tourist landmark will be re-opened to visitors after its longest closure since World War II.

Eiffel Tower, that had been shut for more than three months, will welcome back tourists on June 25 as was closed to the public at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wearing a face mask will be mandatory for all visitors aged 11 or older after the re-opening, according to those responsible for Eiffel Tower management.

The French government started to ease lockdown measures in the country from mid-May, the Palace of Versailles reopened on June 6 and the Louvre will welcome back visitors from July 6.

The authorities at the United Arab Emirates’ business hub, Dubai, began easing COVID-19 restrictions in late May, and some retail and wholesale businesses re-opened recently, subject to social distancing, along with cinemas and gyms.

Dubai officials announced that the emirate will allow the full re-opening of shopping malls and private business enterprises starting on Wednesday, June 3.

Dubai’s economy, which relies heavily on retail, tourism, and hospitality, has suffered from the COVID-19 lockdown and travel restrictions imposed to contain the coronavirus outbreak spread.

As of 8 June, Lufthansa will require passengers to wear mouth and nose protection:

“Obligation to wear a mask” will be adapted to include some of the following points:

In order to protect the health of all persons on board, you are required to wear mouth and nose protecting while boarding, during the flight and when leaving the aircraft.

This obligation does not apply to children up to the age of six years old or to persons who are unable to wear a mask due to health reasons or because of a disability.

The mask may be temporarily removed for consumption of food and beverages on board, for communicating with the hearing-impaired, for identification purposes and for other necessary purposes that are incompatible with wearing mouth and nose protection.

To cover the mouth and nose, so-called everyday masks made of fabric and medical masks can be used.

This change initially applies to Lufthansa, Eurowings and Lufthansa Cityline. All other Lufthansa Group airlines are currently examining whether they will also be adjusting their policies accordingly.

Coronavirus: Is it safe to travel yet? What to know before venturing out amid pandemic (if you must).

–Don’t take that trip if you’re sick or have been around anyone who is sick or exposed to COVID-19.

–If you live in a virus hotspot, you may be an asymptomatic carrier – so wear a mask to protect others.

–Pack food, water, hand sanitizer and medicine, in case you have to self-quarantine.

–Check your destination’s local health guidelines before you depart from home.

Some areas have mandatory quarantines in place. For instance, in Hawaii, that means two weeks in your hotel room before you’re allowed outside – and penalties are enforced.

Tourists will be able to visit Spain from July without having to put themselves in quarantine for two weeks, according to the Spanish government.

The news comes as the country has begun to outline how they are going to ease coronavirus lockdown restrictions as Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said over the weekend that foreign visitors will be able to arrive from July 1.

The Walt Disney Company announced that Walt Disney World Resort executives will submit a proposal today, May 27, to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force in Florida for a phased reopening of the resort’s theme parks. Jim MacPhee, Senior Vice President of Operations, Walt Disney World Resort, will give a virtual presentation of the proposed approach during tomorrow’s online meeting of the Task Force.

Greece has restarted regular ferry services to its islands, while restaurants and bars are reopening, as the country continues efforts to salvage its vital tourism season.

Visitors to Greece are currently required to self-isolate for two weeks, but the country’s low infection rate has encouraged its government to welcome overseas tourists again from June 15. Direct flights to the islands have been given permission to resume from July 1.

Foreign arrivals will no longer be required to self-isolate but they will be subject to Covid-19 testing. Further details will be announced in the coming weeks. Distancing regulations and passenger limits have been imposed both on ferries and at restaurants.
