If you got a tourist visa, have one thing in mind that having that visa does not guarantee 100% you must enter that country. But to be on a safer side, have your working I.d, even pictures of you working or pictures of your working place, carry enough PTA or BTA in dollars(cash), they might not ask but have it to be on a safer side. Also have a paid hotel reservation ( you can book 5 days and pay for a day) you'll tell them that you paid for a day Because when you reach the hotel you need to be sure it’s what you saw online that you're paying for, so that's why you pay a day.

Also very important, have an itinerary of events (this is where and where you planned to visit in their country) most time they will ask you why you decide to travel to the country, then you play them those tapes to shows the places you intend to visit. If possible, when they ask you how long you would stay, tell them few days then go back to your business and family in Nigeria. Ofcourse you no you're not coming back anytime soon (for those who wan go hustle there), just tell them that to allow you cross.

Canada High Commission reportedly issues travel advisory as it suspends operations in Nigeria after fire gutted it's embassy.

The Canada High Commission to Nigeria in Abuja, on Monday, announced that it has suspended its operation in Nigeria until further notice and issued a warning against non-essential travel to the country.

The embassy issued a travel advisory, wearing against non-essential travel to Nigeria, including Abuja “due to the unpredictable security situation throughout the country and a significant risk of crime, inter-communal clashes, armed attacks and kidnapping.”

Information about the temporary closure of the Canadian embassy in Nigeria and the travel advisory was gathered from the official website of the Government of Canada.

Although not the reason stated for the suspension of operations in Nigeria, the Canada High Commission in Abuja on Monday witnessed a fire outbreak that killed two persons and injured two others.

It was reported that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) had attributed the fire outbreak to a diesel tank explosion in the generator house of the embassy. The Canadian Foreign Minister, Melanie Joly, reacted to the incident via her official handle on X (formerly Twitter) saying, “We can confirm there was an explosion at our High Commission in Nigeria. The fire is out and we are working to shed light on what caused this situation.I send my heartfelt condolences to the families of the 2 people killed in this tragedy."

GOOD NEWS TO NIGERIANS

The United States of America has announced that starting from March 1, it will increase visitor visa validity from 24 months to 60 months for Nigerians who want to enter the US temporarily for business and/or tourism.

The US Consulate General, in a statement on Monday, explained that the extension of visa validity for Nigerians would reduce the visa approval wait time for Nigerians and allow them make “short visits” to the US without having to worry about expiration of their visas.

The US decision is coming after the Federal Government directed the full implementation of a new visa reciprocity policy for US citizens coming to Nigeria.

Have enough money that can sustain you for, at least, 2 weeks before you move. Because, it’s not always easy especially when the nature of the Job you're to work is not clearly defined. You don’t know how the system works and you might be discomforted for a while. So prepare well.

If you meet people from your country, they will be more than willing to help you settle down. But they will disappear if you can’t even pay for your meals.

Nobody abroad needs more bills and extra luggage. They have plenty headache already, don’t add to it. Come prepared.

If you’re going on a student visa, use LinkedIn to look up other international students in the school and people living around that town… contact them and ask relevant questions.

You can also contact the office of international student affairs in the school and request them to connect you with other students from your home country.

The people you meet first when you enter a country matters a lot. Be careful the details and private information you share. Be open so people can relate with you but be smart.

Be prepared to learn and unlearn. Some of the things you value in your home country is nothing abroad, and vice versa.

Land in a popular airport if it’s your first time. You may have a connecting flight to airport closest to your destination, but it’s better to land in a popular airport.

Port of Entry is where your fate will be decided. Your visa is just valid for you to get to that port of entry.

Carry African food. Don’t worry about rice and noodles , you will find them abroad.

Accomodation: If possible, sort it with your Agent before moving. But you can sleep in hotels for a few days as you look for a place. Be sure about where you will sleep that first day of arrival.
