Press Statement
On Saturday, September 14, 2019, Stephenie Rodriguez, a member of our Travel Massive community in Australia, was invited to Nigeria as a Guest Speaker at the Hive Africa Global summit organized by Grace Osula and her team at Lily Gate Hotel, Lagos.
In order to maximize her Nigeria trip, she reached out to the Travel Massive Lagos leadership to be featured at our upcoming September 15 event, so she can introduce her new invention, WanderSafe, a safety device and software application for females, solo and vulnerable travellers.
We obliged, publicized the event and had a huge turnout, thanks to our travel community; and more importantly our host venue - Bamboo Lounge and Restaurant, GRA, Ikeja.
This upscale restaurant parades a lovely indoor and outdoor venue with a functional swimming pool and fountain. Bamboo lounge is indeed a hotspot for foreigners, tourists, expatriates and their families in Lagos for swimming, fine dining and hangouts.
For the records, Bamboo has no stagnant water, neither did Travel Massive ask our guests “to take a photoshoot next to a pool of stagnant water.” The videos and pictures from the event testify to this.
Steph was on a global tour to promote her product at the time. Her first stop was in Uganda, then flew into Nigeria to speak at Hive Africa Global Summit, after which she stopped by at Travel Massive Lagos, and left for India the following day - where she spent days attending events and promoting her product, WanderSafe.
It was weeks later that we learnt that she had contracted cerebral malaria, and after months of treatment resulting to subsequent amputation of her limbs. Sadly, this unfortunate mosquito incident could have happened anywhere within Uganda, Nigeria or India.
The entire Travel Massive Lagos community was heartbroken by the troubling news, and we have kept in touch with Steph ever since, following up and praying for her swift recovery.
We are thankful that she is now fully back on
