For months, I was overthinking about launching this brand, I just wanted to travel and inspire people from afar but here we are today. Started it afraid and today we're doing big things.

4am last year, I scheduled our first article to go out on L.inkedIn to introduce the brand and we've been on this since then.

We are 1 today and I'm grateful 🤗

In February, I travelled to Bènin Republic and because Togo is less than a 5 hours journey, I decided to explore Togo too.

If I had not visited Ghana before, I'll go to Ghana once. I learned this after I had returned to Nigeria, if not, I would have done Ivory Coast once.

If I was to return to Nigeria first then plan to go back to Togo, I'll be spending way more money.

But by exploring it once, I've saved myself a lot of money, which includes; the money for stamping at the border, transportation from Nigeria to Togo straight etc.

So, I get to use that money on something else or save ahead for another travel 🧳✈️

There are different types of passport available in Nigeria but for today let's talk about the ECOWAS PASSPORT, usually known as ECOWAS travel certificate.

This is a passport that you can use to travel across ONLY countries in West Africa.

There are about 15 countries in West Africa.

So, if you're a citizen of Nigeria, you are qualified to get the ECOWAS passport in your State and get travel to the following
ECOWAS Member State countries without a VISA.

Bènin Republic
Burkina Faso
Cabo Verde
CÔTE D’IVOIRE
The Gambia
Ghana
Guinea
Guinea Bissau
Liberia
Mali
Niger
Nigeria
Senegal
Sierra Leone
Togo

Unlike the Standard Passport (International Passport), It's easier to get and can be gotten in a day in Lagos. It costs about 25k.

So, if getting the international passport seems long for you and you want to start your travel journey immediately, then this is a great option for you.

Note: You cannot use this passport to travel outside of West Africa.

Where are my travel lovers? 😍

Some of the top questions I get when I talk about Bènin Republic includes, is it safe for children? is language a barrier and do you need a visa to visit? And a few others.

I'll answer the 3 in this post.

First, Bènin Republic is SAFE, very SAFE with round the clock electricity and security.

I was always going out by 2am, 3am for a night walk while eating their sweet pineapple.

I'll walk without any destination in mind and when I'm tired I'll get a bike to take me home.

Yes, there are bike men by that time and they don't inflate the prices because it's late.

There are outdoor restaurants open at that time of the day. These people love enjoyment and I'm sure you do too 😊

So it's safe for children, for men and for women because no one was catcalling on me because their business was more important to them.

Secondly, Bènin is more of a french speaking country. There are many people who don't know how to speak or hear English. You know how we speak English in Nigeria? Ehen, that's how they speak French.

However, you'll find some people who speak Yoruba there, so if you speak Yoruba, do a victory dance 💃💃 because you don't have a problem.

Then for those who are like me who didn't pay good attention to learning french, Google translate to the rescue 😊

Download the app and you're good to go. The people are patient, hospitable and even have a translator too.

Just wave your hands at them and say “Non Française”. (No french 😂)

Ozugbo, Ozugbo (fast fast) they'll bring out their translator, isn't that sweet 😍

Thirdly, you don't need a Visa. Do you know there are about 26 beautiful countries you can visit as a Nigerian without nearing the embassy? (I've made a post about this before).

Just have your International Passport, yellow card and COVID 19 vaccination (this is optional) and you're good to go even tomorrow 🙈

Bènin Republic is a budget friendly country with so many beautiful places to visit, so add it to your bucket list of travel destinations.

One of my top personal tips as a budget traveller is to avoid spontaneity especially if the trip is outside Nigeria.

Whether it's flight ticket, or booking of accomodations, always avoid out of the blues booking.

For instance, I was checking for a flight deal on a particular website, added the date to be somewhere around September and the price was about 2 80k Nàira, moved it down to July and I'm seeing 4 50k Nàira. 👀👀

Same destination, same airline, but different dates.

Planning would help you save a lot of money
With budget travel, you will have to plan, and check out different options too.

Travelling to your First International country is half way possible once you have all your documents set.

I had my passport over a year before I used it to travel.

If you're looking to travel to West African countries first, the yellow card is as important as your passport.

It is even worse if you have it but travel with it when it's not up to 10 days, they'll just send you back to your country.

This documents are the same whether you're going by air or road.

Today's list on saving money for your first or next international trip is the bomb 🔥🔥🔥

It may seem too simple, but it works like magic ✨

If I've not travelled out before, I'll definitely be using it.

Today's step to save money is 👇

✈️ Travel with a group or a friend.

Do you have friends who you're close with? Let's say, a group of 3 including you making it 4.

You all will come together and decide on a particular travel destination. Let's say Ghana 🇬🇭🇬🇭

Hire a travel assistant, he/she would book your flights months ahead together.

When you arrive Ghana 🇬🇭, you'll get a driver who will carry you around. Let's say, he charges 100 cedis for a day, if you split amongst yourself, it would be 25 cedis each.

You've saved yourself 75 cedis.

Instead of paying for your hotel, you book for an apartment (It's usually very spacious with separate rooms and has a sitting room for games and all).

Let's say it's 1000 cedis, each of you get to pay 250 cedis. How mûch are you saving? 😁😁

This is if you're allowing a travel assistant plan your trip and you're going without he/she.

However, you can pay one price to a tour organiser then you relax and enjoy yourself.

For instance, the trip to 2 countries this valentine for only 180k that I posted few days ago. You can pay the 180k and let the organizer do everything.

If you're to go alone to one of these countries, you'll spend over 150,000 for only 2-3 days.

However, by joining a group trip you get to pay only 180,000 Naira to 2 countries for a 5 days trip. (This is closed already though).

So, tag that friend (s) of yours you'll want to travel with in 2023, so you'll start planning.

Experiencing your first travel in 2023 is very possible if you plan properly.

Except you have a lot of spare cash lying around, you can't just wake up and be spontaneous about travel.

There's no spontaneity in budget travel. You MUST plan in order to save money.

In order to save money on your first or next international trip, here are some things to adopt 👇

✈️ Research your destination: With budget travel on your mind, you must learn how to research, in order to find hidden gems in different countries, find interesting travel destinations, the cost of living and activities you can explore.

I came across a country from a book I was reading, not a popular country at all. I went into research and this country is gorgeous 🥰🥰 gosh!!

Immediately, I checked cost of living and I had to relax properly in my chair so I don't fall off from shock 🤣

Now, because I loved this country, I went to check for flights. *You know, there's nothing the Lord cannot do*

I want to let you know that, I laughed my way out of that site. That country is not a budget friendly country. I'll come back to that country some other time.

Now, this is what research can do for you. If you don't have the time to research, by all means, get a travel assistant who'll plan everything for you.


Second on today's list of ways to save money on your first international trip is,

✈️ Look into the cost of flights fare of the area you plan to visit and plan ahead:

Except you're a big baller (RICH PERSON) don't dare book a flight a week to a trip or worse, a few days to your trip.

Booking your flight ticket months ahead can save you a lot of money you can use to do other things.

Many people determine their travel destination by cheap flights. I'm among the many people by the way.

Some airlines even offer discounts if you book ahead, so check different websites, you may be lucky to get a discount.

Set alerts on Google Flights to get different deals.

Nigerians actually love travelling, a lot!!!

However, they're not travelling because of this👇

One of the major reasons, Nigerians including you don't travel is because of lack of INFORMATION.

Many of you have over time been made to believe that the only reason you've not travelled to experience another country is MONEY.

It's not entirely true. I know a number of people who earn 6-7 figures monthly but haven't travelled, yet they would love to.

If it's not money, then what is it?

It is INFORMATION!!

Read that again 😃

There is information exclusivity in the travel industry. A lot of people are hoarding information, and some already see having the Nigerian passport as a disadvantage.

The RIGHT INFORMATION can change both your mindset, and how you see things.

If I drop information that teaches you how to travel to 2 countries, flex, experience a bit of luxury, learn about new people and culture for less than 200,000 ($262), I'll have over 10 persons in my DM willing to explore these countries ☺️

There is a country you can visit with 500,000 ($656). This includes your return flight ticket.

Then, there are also ways you can use that same 500,000 ($656) to shuttle across 3-4 countries, flex and even get to work remotely.

The value of Naira can be disappointing but you can explore these places on a budget.

It's access to information, added to money that gives an European the liberty to backpack and travel across 10 countries in 2 or more.

Information would set you apart. This is why many people think TRAVEL is only for the rich.

No, dear. The RICH have access to information that you don't.

Why do you think people who don't even have the complete money yet for their relocation are hungry for information?

It's because they understand that even with their money, if you don't have the RIGHT INFORMATION, you'll be moving on the wrong path and end up making mistakes.
