US Visa applicants who are denied visas always believe the responses to their last question is the reason why they were denied.

Most times this is not true. The last question might just give the CO time to confirm something about you on his system.

Once that is done, you hear the verdict.

Many things usually lead to rejection. Few reasons

Your application itself
Social ties
Fund
Your host if invited
Village people.

My point is your refusal reason is not usually the last question asked.

I saw this video and I have decided to chip in.

I have two advice to give

Don't break any rule attached to your visa. As a student always remember you can't do more than 20 hrs. Yes people do above 20 hrs and are never caught, remember one day monkey will go to market and will never return. Always plan for your financial resources before you leave.
First few weeks won't be easy, if you have dependents, I always advise the primary applicant to go first. This will give the student time to enrol, get accomodation and settle down will less family pressure. First weeks are always challenging.

In summary, migrating , especially using the student route, can be challenging and can take its toll on your finances and marital life.

Get ready and always have PLAN B.

The fee for visitor visas for business or tourism (B1/B2s and BCCs), and other non-petition based NIVs such as student and exchange visitor visas, will increase from $160 to $185.

One of the cons of buying a non refundable ticket is that you can lose your money if you decide not to travel anymore.

Circumstances can warrant you not traveling anymore such as illness, government policy or even your intended purpose of traveling being cancelled.

What do you do in this case when the airline has refused to refund you.

I advise you not to cancel your trip with the airline. There is always a chance that airlines will delay or reschedule flights. If this happens, you have a way in to seek a full refund.

So the only option you have is for the airline to delay the flight.

If this does not happen 3hrs to your flight, open the ticket if possible so you can use it at another time definitely you will pay for date change and any other penalty that may come with that.

The golden rule is if you are not sure of a trip please avoid a non refundable ticket.

Effective March 1, 2023, the U.S. Mission will increase visitor visa validity from 24 months to 60 months for Nigerians who want to enter the United States temporarily for business and/or tourism. 

The visa validity extension allows Nigerians to use the visa for 60 months to make short trips to the United States for tourism or business purposes before having to renew their visa.  The visa application fee, currently USD160, will not increase as a result of the increased visa validity.

Increasing visa validity is one of several initiatives taken by the United States to reduce visa appointment wait times in Nigeria. The U.S. Mission continues to offer No-Interview Visa Renewals to those who meet the eligibility criteria.  Appointments for No-Interview Visa Renewals are readily available.
