Police grill factional A’Ibom APC chairman over alleged forgery

The Police on Monday grilled factional chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Stephen Ntokekpo.

The development was over a petition filed against him by the chairman of State Congress Committee of the party, Banki Sheriff.

Sheriff accused the factional chairman of forging his signature on the result sheet, which Ntokekpo had been parading as result of the State Congress for which he declared himself winner.

National chairman of APC, Abdullahi Adamu, swore in Ntokekpo as chairman of APC in Akwa Ibom against an Abuja Court of Appeal’s order asking members to maintain status quo.

Ntokekpo was sworn in after he secured a judgement of an Abuja Federal High Court, which sacked Mr. Austin Ekanem and declared him winner of the congress.

Ekanem had been declared as winner of the State Congress after pooling about 1,200 votes.

The Congress was conducted at Sheer Grace Arena, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State by the Banki Sheriff’s seven-man Congress panel dispatched for the exercise in October 2021 by Mai Mala Buni Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.

Buni Remains APC Caretaker Chairman – Gov Uzodimma

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma on Monday said his Yobe State counterpart Mai Mala Buni remains the the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress’ Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.

Buni’s position had come under scrutiny last week after Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State assumed the Chairmanship position.

Bello took over after Buni had left the country for medical treatment.

The Niger State Governor’s chairmanship is said to backed by the President, according to Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, amid reports that Buni was planning on delaying the APC’s planned convention this month.

However, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Uzodimma said due process will have to be followed for Buni to be removed from his position.

“APC is a very serious party,” he said. “Everything going on at the secretariat now are going on with the knowledge of Mai Mala Buni. And as soon as he comes back, he will also take over the realms of the party.”

To remove Buni, a meeting of the National Executive Committee must be convened, Uzodimma added.

“The right organ of the party to take and implement such decisions is the National Executive Committee. Have we summoned that committee? Because if we do, INEC will be invited to observe. And if they observe, whatever decision taken will be known to them.”

*APC Begins Sale Of Forms Monday Ahead Of National Convention*

*The All Progressives Congress (APC) will tomorrow, Monday, February 14 commence the sale of forms to all aspirants vying for national offices ahead of the party’s national convention slated for February 26.*

*In the schedule of activities released by the party and signed by the Secretary of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John Akpanudoedehe, the purchase of forms will take place at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.*

*The party said: “Sale of Forms to all aspirants vying for National Offices (APC National Secretariat) – 14/02/2022. Submission of completed forms and accompanying documents (APC National Secretariat) – on or before 19/02/2022.”*

*It added that the publication of the members of the sub-committees for the national convention is scheduled to take place on February 19, 2022, while screening of all aspirants vying for national offices would take place between February 20 and 22, 2022.*

*The party noted that the screening appeal committees to hear and resolve complaints arising from the screening exercise would be held on February 23.*
