What: Business Owners & Community Leader/Influencer Meeting to discuss a full local Water System change & upgrade.

Who: Business owners or managers, Indigenous Leaders & Community members, local influencers, plus representatives from Leon, Government & the Poneloya Water System.

When: 2pm on Friday, October 20th at Conmanejo (the estuary permit payment office on the Bocana near the southern end).

**Details**
There is new planning under way by local and Sutiaba Indigenous Leaders to change the water system in Las Peñitas to connect to the more reliable and high pressure system they use in Poneloya. It appears like there is government approval for this change to be made in the very near future (within weeks).

To answer all questions about how and when this change will be made there is a meeting at 2pm on Thursday, October 20th at Conmanejo (map link above). Please save your questions for the meeting as I do not have all the answers.

I have been told that Roger Montoya the Indigenous Leader from Sutiava will be attending along with officials of the Alcadia and Government, plus business owners and interested community members.

All business owners or managers are strongly urged to attend for solidarity and stronger collective pressure to ensure this need is met in a satisfying and timely matter and so we can proceed to other community improvement issues.

Greetings Las Peñitas Community Members, Friends, Family & Visitors,

tl;dr Summary:

1. There is a new Indigenous Community Leadership Group in Las Peñitas with Jairo Amalla as the head.
2. Don Jairo Is forming a wider committee to coordinate community improvement Initiatives & tourism promotion/facilitation between the Indigenous Leaders, Business Owners and Civic Minded locals who can help in any way.
3. Next meeting will be announced soon.

There are some new Leadership and Community Initiatives that I wanted to communicate as we seek to organize to help drive greater improvement to our community and local tourism. I will leave it to Facebook translation to do the translation into Spanish and all other languages so pardon the English only notice.

A few weeks ago the Las Peñitas indigenous community elected a new Community Leadership Group:

* Jairo Amalla - Las Peñitas Community Coordinador (Group leader)
* Soyamara Amalla - Assistent Coordinator.
* Efrem Carmona - Secretary.
* Mercedes La Tesorera & Maria Manuela Rodríguez: Co-Treasurers.
* One more leader we have not yet met.

As the Community Leadership Group oversees all of Las Peñitas that of course includes indigenous people, foreign born residents and tourists. To be inclusive of community related development, improvement initiatives & increased tourism promotion/facilitation, Don Jairo would like to start holding monthly meetings moving forwards between Indigenous Leaders, Business Owners/Management and Active Community Organizers (Nica or Foreign born). Feel free to join future meetings if you are interested in participating or can offer other forms of assistance.

* The first meeting was held last Thursday with only a few of us but was kind of impromptu with less than a day notice given to others. Apologies for that sort notice.
* Both Nica & Foreign Business owners and organizers will be notified in advance of future meetings.

To coordinate and drive community improvements, to help provide support for community events & economic suffering, to address problems with area infrastructure & services (public & private), and to strongly promote & support Las Peñitas Tourism growth.

Top Community Issues Discussed

1. The Municipal Water System in Las Peñitas is terrible for most people with very weak pressure and volume and very little water available on major weekends and holidays. This issue will be a Top priority for the group.
2. There is a lot of economic suffering right now in the community and we would like to help coordinate help with the gift of one bag of food per family like the Basic Food Staple Bolsas (rice, beans, pasta, etc) which are given around the holidays. We are seeking donations of US $500 total to cover 47 bolsas. Contact us if you can help.
3. No Night Transport between Las Peñitas Poneloya
4. No Night Transportation between Las Peñitas León
5. Poor Street Light Coverage & Service on the Main Beach Road and at intersections in the secondary roads.
6. Poor Traffic & Parking Control
7. Limited Safe & Clean Parking Options For Visitors
8. Inconsistent Trash Pickup
9. Rundown/Dirty/Flooded Sports Fields with limited spectator support
10. No Child Play Park / Areas
11. Confusing Area Navigation & Orientation for first time tourist visitors.

You can go on a walking tour at night to see the big turtles hatch in the mangrove.
Or go free the babyturtles in the morning, to see them take off into the big wide ocean ready for adventure 🌊

Haciendo un paseo por la noche en el manglar podrías encontrar unas tortugas grandes poniendo huevos.
Por la mañana pueden ir a ver la liberación de las tortuguitas recien nacidas, viendo las entrar al gran oceano para empezar su nueva aventura 🌊

Próximo 26 de noviembre es el Carnaval de Mitos, Leyendas y Tradiciones Nicaragüenses en la ciudad de León.

Hora: 5 pm
Lugar: Plaza de Sutiaba hacia el Parque Central Juan Jose Quezada.

Los Cipes, la llorona, la Carrera Nahua, el padre sin cabeza, el punche de oro, Arrechavala, Gigantona, los enmascarados, comparsas, el Torovenado, los agüizotes de Masaya participaran de esta actividad cultural.
