Die totstandkoming van die Nasionale Bergkwaggapark in 1937 op ‘n deel van die plaas Babylons Toren naby Cradock, was die eerste groot pogings om die Kaapse Bergsebra van totale uitwissing te red.
Van ‘n skamele 60 in die 1930’s het die Kaapse Bergsebra se getalle toegeneem tot sowat 5 185 (volgens WWF Okt'24) vandag.

Een van hulle grootste bedreigings, inteling.
Beide die bontkwagga en Hartmann se sebra kan met Kaapse Bergsebra paar. Vulletjies wat uit die Kaapse-Bergsebra-Hartmann-kruising voortspruit sal waarskynlik vrugbaar wees en tot die kontaminasie van beide die Kaapse Bergsebra en Hartmann se genepoel kan lei.

Alhoewel Kaapse-Bergsebra-bontkwagga-vulletjies waarskynlik onvrugbaar sal wees, sal sulke kruisings ’n nadelige impak op voorplantingsgeleenthede vir beide spesies hê. Sebras kan ook met donkies en perde kruisteel.

Hartmann se sebra is nie in ons informasie prentjie nie, hulle is wel na verwant aan die Kaapse Bergsebra en kom meer in Namibia natuurlik voor.

Die Kwagga, Equus quagga quagga, ’n subspesie van die Bontkwagga is die kwagga sepsie wat reeds uitgestef het.

Tea time at a Karoo guest farm isn’t tea time without some cake or tart on offer with your afternoon coffee or tea. One of Anne Bowker’s most popular teatime dishes when they ran a guest farm was Cupcakes, decorated with slices of green fig preserve as leaves with tiny fresh briar roses. Today we share Anne's cupcake recipe with you.

Cupcakes

125 g Butter
155 g Caster sugar
2 Eggs
115g Flour
1 1/2 t Baking powder
150 ml Milk

Preheat oven to 180 and line muffin tins with paper cases
Beat together butter and sugar with an electric be**er until pale and creamy
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition
Stir in flour and milk and spoon into cases
Bake for 15 minutes until skewer comes out clean
Take out of muffin pan and cool on a rack
Ice when cool with vanilla flavoured butter icing and decorate
Anne makes double quantities every time as they are delicious and get snapped up in no time at all.
