📌Pamukkale Hierapolis Ancient City - Denizli

Pamukkale, which is included in almost all lists of places to see before you die and visited by around 2 million tourists every year , is a place where nature takes on the role of an artist. The discovery of the charm of Pamukkale, where the white travertines formed as a result of the contact of thermal waters with air create gradual shapes resembling a frozen waterfall and occasionally form terrace-shaped pools, dates back to the Roman Period .

Most of the ruins of the Pamukkale Hierapolis Ancient City, standing in all its glory right next to the Pamukkale Travertines , also date from this period. These ruins, along with the unparalleled travertines, are on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List .

We are sure that Pamukkale will fascinate you at first sight. 2 thousand years ago, the Kingdom of Pergamon could not resist this attraction and built the city of Hierapolis next to the travertines . During this period, Hierapolis served as a thermal health center and its springs, believed to be healing, were visited by people from different parts of Anatolia for thousands of years in search of health and beauty. Today, thermal pools continue to be visited in search of beauty and health. You can also enter the waters where people of the ancient world swam thousands of years ago and watch the magnificent view of the travertines. However, this natural beauty, which took thousands of years to form, is quite delicate.

Therefore, it is possible to walk around only certain parts and enter its waters. Those who want to stay in Pamukkale for a longer time and benefit from its healing waters can both stay in the thermal facilities located near the ancient city and travertines and enjoy massages, thermal waters and mud baths.

The ancient city of Hierapolis has been preserved very well and has survived to the present day. The Roman Bath , which we can definitely say was visited very often when it was a thermal center , is now used as an archaeological museum. ⤵️

📌Belem Tower

Monuments

The harmony and delicate decoration of the Torre de Belem suggest to all who see it a wrought jewel. However, the vision that was held at the time of its construction was very different: it was a formidable and fearsome defensive fortress at the entrance via the Tagus River. The crossfire could be opened from here and from the São Sebastião Tower on the other bank. The tower was built by order of King D. Manuel I (1495-1521) by Francisco de Arruda between 1514 and 1521 on a small basalt island located near the right bank of the Tagus, opposite the beach of Restelo. Due to the shifting of the river course over the years, the tower ended up almost touching the bank, as if it were “moored” here.

The Torre de Belém consists of a square tower, reminiscent of medieval castles, and a polygonal fortress, which was intended for defence by means of heavy artillery and was equipped with cannons at water level. The domes of the watchtowers, which stand on each corner of the fortress, show the influence of Moroccan fortresses. In addition to these oriental elements, the Manueline decorations predominate, such as the ropework in the stone, the heraldic motifs and even in the famous rhinoceros, which had never been depicted in Europe before. The most decorated façade is the one facing south, where the enormous porch is located. On the wall of the walkway that lies on the fortress, there is an 18th-century statue of the Virgin and Child, which is, as it were, the prow of the tower.

The interior of the tower is certainly worth seeing, and especially the climb to the top. Your efforts will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the Tagus estuary and the western side of Lisbon, so representative of Portugal's history during the Discoveries.

In 1983, the Torre de Belem was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

October, the fall of yellow leaves,
A melody of autumn mixed with sorrow.
Raindrops in the eyes,
Longing in the heart, solitude in the soul.

The wind whispers traces of the past,
With every step, memories come alive.
Red and orange burn like fire,
October is the memory of love deep within.

Nights grow longer, stars dim,
A scent of to***co wraps the darkness.
Warm conversations in coffee cups,
As your eyes fill, the sea within us.

October is the month of transformation,
In every fall, a rebirth.
A twinge in the heart, perhaps hope,
The love and longing that autumn brings

✈️🧳⏰️⏳️⛱️🌍🏟🛵📸🚲⭐️🌤🛶🚦

📌 Demre is located between Kas and Finike in the province of Antalya. Demre is known as the place Myra from the Lycian period. The present Demre is surrounded by mountains on three sides and is situated in a beautiful landscape.

The local population lives mainly from agriculture. In the fertile valleys, tea grows a lot and pepper is grown.

There are not many tourist facilities but the nearby archaeological site of Myra and the Kekova nature reserve are important and much visited sights.

Cayagzi is the small port of Demre and from here small boats sail to the islet of Kekova. In ancient times, a little further on was the port of Andriake, the port of the Lycian city of Myra. The Apostle Paul is said to have changed boats in Andriake on his way from Jerusalem to Rome.

In the current silted up harbour, about ten minutes walk from the paved road stands the Granary of Hadrian. Above the entrance to the striking granary (granarium) are busts of Hadrian and Empress Faustina.

The trail ends at a beautifully situated beach and on the other side of the footbridge there are several restaurants.

Myra was one of the most important cities in ancient Lycia and is best known for St. Nicholas of Myra, our current Santa Claus. The archaeological site is located at the foot of the rock behind Demre. From the Roman theater there is a path to the rock tombs.

Saint Nicholas was born in Patara and is the Orthodox patron saint of sailors.

The generous giver of gifts became known in the West as Sinterklaas but sometimes also as Santa Claus (Father Christmas or Noel Baba in Turkish).

After his death he was buried in the church of St. Nicholas of Myra and his sarcophagus can be seen here. Not much remains of the church itself, which was partly built into the rocks, but the church is being restored. In 1087 the bones of the saint were brought from Myra to Bari by sailors from the Italian Bari.

📍Edinburgh ~ Scotland

✈️🧳⏰️⏳️⛱️🌍🏟🛵📸🚲⭐️🌤🛶🚦

📌 Edinburgh, capital city of Scotland, located in southeastern Scotland with its centre near the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, an arm of the North Sea that thrusts westward into the Scottish Lowlands. The city and its immediate surroundings constitute an independent council area. The city and most of the council area, including the busy port of Leith on the Firth of Forth, lie within the historic county of Midlothian, but the council area also includes an area in the northwest, around South Queensferry, in the historic county of West Lothian.

Physically, Edinburgh is a city of sombre theatricality, with much of this quality deriving from its setting among crags and hills and from its tall buildings and spires of dark stone. Edinburgh has been a military stronghold, the capital of an independent country, and a centre of intellectual activity. Although it has repeatedly experienced the vicissitudes of fortune, the city has always renewed itself. Today it is the seat of the Scottish Parliament and the Scottish Executive, and it remains a major centre for finance, law, tourism, education, and cultural affairs. Area council area, 102 square miles (264 square km)

Although Edinburgh absorbed surrounding villages and the Firth of Forth ports between 1856 and 1920, its aesthetic and political heart still lies in its small historic core, comprising the Old Town and the New Town. The Old Town, built up in the Middle Ages when the fear of attack was constant, huddles high on the Castle Rock overlooking the surrounding plain. The New Town, in contrast, spreads out in a magnificent succession of streets, crescents, and terraces. The medieval Old Town and the Neoclassical New Town were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995.

📌Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands . The city is located on the IJ , the North Sea Canal and the mouth of the Amstel in the municipality of Amsterdam in the province of North Holland . In terms of population, Amsterdam is the largest city in the Netherlands with 918,117 inhabitants (1 January 2023) The Greater Amsterdam metropolitan area has 1,459,402 inhabitants.

Amsterdam owes its name to its location at a dam built in the Amstel in the 13th century. The city is also called Mokum in Amsterdam , a nickname derived from Yiddish . Amsterdam has also been known for several centuries as the ' Venice of the North ', a comparison that is due to the many canals and historic buildings that determine the streetscape of the old city centre.

The town was granted city rights shortly after 1300, became a place of pilgrimage in 1345 after the Miracle of Amsterdam , and grew into one of the most important ports and trading cities in the world during the Golden Age . An influx of foreigners, mainly from the Southern Netherlands, Germany and the Scandinavian countries, led to urban expansion from the end of the 16th century , including the last canals of the fortification known as the Canal Belt , which was added to the World Heritage List in 2010 .

Major attractions in Amsterdam include the Rijksmuseum – known for its rich collection of works from the Golden Age – the more modern Stedelijk Museum , the Van Gogh Museum and the Maritime Museum , and the Anne Frank House . Culturally famous are also the Concertgebouw , Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ and EYE Film Museum , as well as Artis Zoo . The Red Light District , the coffee shops and the Johan Cruijff ArenA are also typical Amsterdam attractions. Every year, these attractions attract millions of tourists and visitors to the city. 📍Lauterbrunnen ~ Switzerland

✈️🧳⏰️⏳️⛱️🌍🏟🛵📸🚲⭐️🌤🛶🚦

📌 Lauterbrunnen combines just about everything that makes Switzerland so special. Admire natural spectacles against an alpine backdrop. Hike through picturesque villages. Conquer the most beautiful hiking and winter sports areas in Switzerland. And experience the UNESCO World Heritage Jungfrau-Aletsch up close.

This is Lauterbrunnen
Lauterbrunnen is located between Interlaken and the Jungfrau massif in a valley of breathtaking beauty. More Swiss Alps is hardly possible.

Discover Lauterbrunnen

For example, start your day with a walk through the village against the backdrop of the Staubbach Falls . The best photo spots can be found in the car-free postcard village of Wengen . You can decide for yourself whether to take the cog railway to the Kleine Scheidegg or the cable car to Mürren . The ride to the Männlichen is a spectacle in itself, especially when you are standing on the roof of the cabin.

Waterfalls in Lauterbrunnen

72 waterfalls gave the village the name "Lauter Brunnen". The most famous is the Staubbach waterfall : experience how the water plunges 300 metres down the vertical rock face in a mist. The mighty Mürrenbach waterfall plunges 750 metres into the depths in five cascades. The Trümmelbach waterfalls let you feel the enormous energy of the water: the glacial water rushes through a labyrinth of rocks inside the mountain.

Wengen and Mürren

Enjoy the peace and quiet and the view in the two car-free mountain villages that are part of the municipality of Lauterbrunnen. Wengen is located on the sunny side and on the way to Grindelwald . From Mürren a cable car takes you to the Schilthorn with its revolving restaurant Piz Gloria . But first take a selfie with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in the background.

✈️🧳🏞🌍⏰️⌛️🎥🚢🌹🏟☀️☃️⛱️🚲

📌Navajo Upper Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon in the American Southwest, on Navajo land east of Lechee, Arizona. It includes six separate, scenic slot canyon sections on the Navajo Reservation, referred to as Upper Antelope Canyon (or The Crack), Rattle Snake Canyon, Owl Canyon, Mountain Sheep Canyon, Canyon and Lower Antelope Canyon (or The Corkscrew). It is the primary attraction of Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park, along with a hiking trail to Rainbow Bridge National Monument.

The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tsé bighánílíní, which means 'the place where water runs through the (Slot Canyon) rocks'. Lower Antelope Canyon is Hazdistazí (called "Hasdestwazi" by the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department), or 'spiral rock arches'. Both are in the LeChee Chapter of the Navajo Nation. They are accessible by Navajo guided tour only.

- Geology
Route of Antelope Creek from the National Hydrography Dataset, which describes Antelope Creek as an intermittent creek. The top marker denotes the location of the entrance to Lower Antelope Canyon and the bottom marker denotes the location of the entrance to Upper Antelope Canyon
Antelope Canyon was formed by the erosion of Navajo Sandstone[2] due to flash flooding and other sub-aerial processes. Rainwater, especially during monsoon season, runs into the extensive basin above the slot canyon sections, picking up speed and sand as it rushes into the narrow passageways.Over time the passageways eroded away, deepening the corridors and smoothing hard edges to form characteristic "flowing" shapes.

📍 Piran ~ Slovenia

✈️🧳⛱️🌊☀️⏰️✈️🏞🏖⚽️🌍☃️🚄🚋🏝

📌 The most beautiful town on the Slovenian coast grew with the help of salt. The Piran salt pans, where the world-class fleur de sel (flower of salt) is still produced today using age-old methods, were the reason why the picturesque Mediterranean walled town, with its church with a view and cultural attractions, flourished.

The old port town with remnants of a medieval wall is protected as a cultural and historical monument. Narrow streets with closely constructed houses descending from the hill and its church to the central square on the coast only emphasise its Mediterranean character. This worldly coastal town, which developed under the influence of Venice, is considered to be one of the most authentic and most photogenic towns on the Adriatic coast. In addition to architecture, the Maritime Museum, an aquarium and other attractions, visitors flock to this town to enjoy events, the culinary offerings, and nearby special natural features.

Piran is one of the picturesque medieval towns of Slovenia. Lovers of defensive walls and other architectural and cultural features from times gone by can travel in Slovenia for a week, going from one historical town to another, from the coast to Ljubljana, and from the Alps to the Pannonian Plain.

✈️🧳⌚️⏰️🏟🌍🏞🛵🚲⏳️☀️🌨☃️⛰️⚘️

📌 Dresden is a city popular among tourists that is located in the east of Germany . At the time of the division of Germany, Dresden was part of the communist German Democratic Republic. After the Fall of the Wall, communism disappeared rapidly. Nowadays Dresden is a romantic, atmospheric city where people like to stay. It is not without reason that records are broken in the field of tourism year after year.

Dresden has more than half a million inhabitants. This makes the city slightly smaller than Rotterdam, for example, just to give an impression. If you visit Dresden you will have the feeling that the city is a lot smaller than Rotterdam. This is mainly due to the limited number of high-rise buildings. Dresden and Rotterdam have two important similarities: both cities are located on a large river and both cities suffered heavily from bombing during the Second World War. In Dresden, the decision was made to reconstruct historic buildings as much as possible during the reconstruction of the city center. That is why as a visitor you do not always realize that many of the buildings you see in the center of Dresden were built after the war.

We do our best to keep the information on www.dresdenvoorbeginners.nl as accurate, honest and up to date as possible. However, it may happen that an error creeps in or something has changed that we have not yet mentioned on this site.

✈️⌚️⏳️🏟⛰️🌍🧳🌦⏰️🛵🛶☀️🌙🌧

📌 A cenote or cenode is the name for a water-containing cave or pool in Yucatán . There are more than 3,000 cenotes in the Yucatán, of which about 1,400 have been studied and recorded.

Cenotes occur in regions where there are no above-ground rivers . The water seeps through the porous soil and flows to the sea via underground rivers. In geology this is called a karst phenomenon . In some places the rock has softened and collapsed (a sinkhole ), creating underground, water-filled cavities, the cenotes.

A cenote is a sacred place for the Mayans because it is the entrance to the underworld. The Mayans used the pools to make sacrifices, including human sacrifices, which can be found with underwater archaeology . The human sacrifices were probably made to the rain god Chaac . The Sagrado cenote (the Sacred Cenote) was so full of sacrifices, including more than a hundred people, that a five-meter-thick Mayan blue layer was deposited in it. In 2021, a nearly intact canoe was found in a cenote in Yucatán, attributed to the Mayans.

In northern Yucatán, many cenotes are located around the Chicxulub crater rim, which is located in a circle with a radius of approximately 90 kilometers around the Chicxulub impact site . The Sistema Sac Actun near Tulum on the Riviera Maya is a series of underground passages, cenotes and caves explored from the Gran Cenote . Its size was partially determined in 1987, at which time it was the longest known explored system in the world. A series of cenotes are connected through this system and ultimately end up in the Caribbean Sea. Discoveries are still being made, as a result of which 319 kilometers of tunnel systems have now been explored.

Similar structures occur in Europe.

Saint-Paul-de-Vence~ France

📍✈️⛱️🌊☀️⏰️✈️🏞🏖⚽️🌍☃️🚄🚋

📌 Saint-Paul-de-Vence

Saint-Paul-de-Vence is a beautiful town located in the Alpes-Maritimes department , in the Provence region . The village is built on a rock, and therefore overlooks the surrounding area. Saint-Paul-de-Vence is considered by experts to be one of the most beautiful villages in Provence .

History of Saint-Paul-de-Vence
Various studies have shown that the Ionians from the Greek city of Phocaea settled in this area around 350 years BC. Around the second century AD, this area was occupied by the Romans. The village itself was probably created by the presence of an old church at this location. In the Middle Ages, the Counts of Provence ruled over the village and the surrounding area. Thanks to various privileges, this town grew into a prosperous village. The town was geographically located at an important point, namely on the border of five different counties. Because of this strategic location, it was decided to build a large defensive wall to protect the village against possible attacks.

In the sixteenth century AD, Saint-Paul-de-Vence was besieged twice by the troops of Charles the Fifth. Despite the fact that the attacks were repulsed, it was decided to improve the defensive walls. The old defensive walls were no match for the power of the artillery. Construction of this fortified defensive wall would ultimately take four years. In addition to the fortified walls, bastions were also built to protect both city gates. However, Saint-Paul-de-Vence would no longer be besieged. The beauty of this village was forgotten until the presence of various artists after the First World War ensured that the town became known to the general public.
